Fourteen Days to wait

Are speed awareness courses worth it these days....as you still have to notify your insurance company if you have attended one?
Only if the proposal form specifically asks.

Of no concern to me, as I've not had points/SACs for over 7 years.

I don't mind a 3-6 points on my licence as it makes almost no different to my insurance. I don't drive any differently after the points as I think it's just the luck of the draw as to whether it's my turn to get the points.

An old pal of mine had 6 points on his licence and travelled north up through motorway roadworks in the morning and south that same evening- both times over the 50mph set limit - problem was the speed camera warning were real - it’s said they were fake for weeks and a lot of folk had become used to doing 65 past them. - his 6 became 12 and a six month ban in the one day!

You can imagine how peed off I am then, as I've been driving through the M6 50MPH SPECS-controlled roadworks (different stretches between Warrington & Birmingham) for about 10 years - plus the regular overnight closures which start before they're supposed to with next to useless diversion signage. Every 3-4 years they look to be ending...and they just start another stretch :headbang:

But, despite sitting at a nice, steady, GPS-55mph I've managed not to get a ticket from them.

My last ticket was 2013 in Wales, but I was caught by a real copper. My peak speed was 96mph in a 60mph, but was 'let off' with just the 3 points & £60 fine as he saw I'd just booted it past another car and slowed down to 70mph almost immediately.

My only ticket (did an SAC instead) by camera was in 2004 - and was because someone ran across the road in front of me without looking, and I booted it away after he'd crossed...but hit 34mph as I drove past the camera I'd not spotted (or due to rage blindness).

Done one speed awareness course, was quite informative actually, though none of it was related to my actual crime (85 on a quiet motorway, in the middle of the night  )

Well here we are at 31st July - Camera van Day + 15 (I read that the Day of “capture” is day one)
I think I’m safe now or is that the kiss of death?

Well I guess that would depend on whether it is judged on the day you receive the letter, or the day the letter is dated and dispatched?
I'd be keeping my head down until after the weekend just to be sure.

I did read that the day of the offence is Day one - they do say you have to be notified within 14 days but also say “under Normal circumstances “ I think this could be their wiggle room ie. sorry it’s late, it’s the pandemic you know. We are working short staffed!
(Postie has just been with the daily crop of junk mail and bills)

Well it looks like you've blown it then.
Just have to go out again and try harder this time. :poke: :D

Day of offence is day zero actually, then you have 14 days after that (so day 15 if you include the date of offcense). COVID or not has not got any bearing on this as it has to be sent that it will be delivered before it times out. The same around Christmas time, they have to make adjustments to the method of delivery, not you for receiving it later.

You can celbrate it when you are released from isolation tomorrow with some extrac inappropriate speed to celebrate :D

Now that I have a white (lockdown) beard it’s not as harsh as you think!

Reminds me of the time I had to attend the Magistrates Court in Newmarket for 104mph on a 70mph dual carrigeway..

There were about 20 of us all facing more than 30mph over the limit..

I was aboout no 17 in the queue..

Various people presented compelling reasons not to be banned..

Loss of job, inability to see divorced children at weekend, promising future career ruined, visit dying mother, only person in house who could drive, mistook speed limit, car was only comfortable at a certain speed, sun distracted driver etc etc etc

So in each case it was £x fine plus 30 days..

x ranged from £60 to the low for the destitute to £240 for the richest..

When mine came up it was £100 and 28 days..quelle suprise..

I feel pretty fortunate to have been offered the speed awareness course especially as it’s through zoom

Does anyone else see the irony of speed awareness through 'zoom'.
