Fourteen Days to wait

Part of society I really dont like, the checking up on everyone and everything to see if anyone does anything trivially wrong.

Best I never try driving in London again. They're far more Liberal around these parts, in my experience. Though average speed cameras are appearing more and more on the busy main trunk roads, to stop the tourist killing themselves in the summer madness.

Alas I doubt they will switch them off out of the crazy season, meaning the locals will get to drive along beautiful deserted A roads at 50mph on crisp dry winters days. oh sarcastic joy..

There are still lots of decent minor roads though.

If you are unlucky & get the speed awareness course you do it on online via "zoom" now  daughter did hers this morning sharing her screen with 13 other criminals :P

I’ve heard the speed awareness still refers the stopping stopping distance of a 1955 Morris minor with drum brakes and cross ply tyres!

I strayed into a bus lane a couple of days ago, I'm waiting to hear about that :x

Got the Penalty Charge Notice in the post this morning (Saturday), the dastardly offence was committed last Wednesday so quick work from the Council on this occasion.

It's £60 reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days. I'm going to appeal as the ANPR photos clearly show a large van in front of me just before the turn into the bus lane which blocked my view. Snowball in hell's chance of success but if you don't try you don't get!

At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!
They said London was even more of a nightmare when they had the additional Olympic Lanes.

Why do they even call it a Speed Awareness Course?
Yes Officer, I was aware of my speed.
Well done, you've passed.

The only thing in its favour is it a avoids points on the licence.

Clean license for the last 33 years and then I’ve just got my second in the last 6 months. Hoping I get the speed awareness 39 in a 30, but I’ve a feeling I may be just over, camera van hiding under trees on a steep hill getting you coming round a corner, (foot off accelerator just costing)

Usually you need to be in the next 10% above the 10% ish leeway ie 33-36 in your case..I’ll be pleasantly suprised as you will be if you get offered a course..speaking as someone who has attended 3 courses..

According to this article Ron you should be ok. Most police forces seem to operate a margin of 10% plus 2mph

Wales don't. My daughters boyfriend was reported for 31 in a 30.
And no, it wasn't a motorbike, it was a vw camper.
Money grabbing arsewipes.
He is appealing it.
The Welsh hate the English but love their money.

Don't just pick on the Welsh,,everybody in the world hates the English  :fuelfire:

I read somewhere that all speedo's read high to prevent the manufacturer being sued for speed offenses,

Years back, when I was in to all things Capri, I read the development history.
In that case, they could get the gearing spot on, but had to allow for markets with snow chains fitted, which would theoretically increase the rolling radius. Therefore they had to gear the speedo to that eventuality, meaning it over-read for everyone else.

It’s actually a European legal requirement that the vehicle type test includes a test of the speedometer accuracy and that the recorded speed must always be greater than the actual speed but not by more than10% plus 4 km/hr with typical tyres and inflation pressures. The test is completed at 40 km/hr, 80 km/hr and 120 km/hr..

Oh and good luck, hope you’ll be fine. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago, driving back from Bristol on the M1, stuck at 74 mph in cruise and a white van overtook me doing 80 or so. Just as he was a cars length ahead he pulled in and then a few seconds later slowed right down, I pulled out to overtake and passed him still doing 74 mph and then noticed the mobile speed camera on an overhead bridge. I didn’t bother to slow as there seemed little point, then worried about it for the next few days, however nothing came through fortunately

A consistent statistic is that most road accidents happen within 3 miles of someone's home. Perhaps the locals need a little re-training to cope with 'the tourists.'

I use bus lanes regularly while driving my car. I have long since realised that people do not read the signs correctly or do not know that they can use Bus Lanes during certain times. Many times I have past a long queue of traffic on the nearside while they queue outside the bus lane, although I suspect that a few Z4 drivers may start using the bus lane now.

That smells of something like BS to me!

I'm sure more 2000s BMW owners have used snow-chains, but they seem to have much more accurate speedos.

My 4 speed 2.8i Capris were supposed to hit the rev-limiter at 130mph but both went off the 140mph clock, on private roads obviously.

I'm sure it was just to make them seem quicker than they really were!

Context is crucial. Most bumps and scratches occur close to home. Plus the locals don't use to trunk roads much in the silly season. They use the back roads and the accidents mostly occur in the silly season on the trunk roads.

Are speed awareness courses worth it these days....as you still have to notify your insurance company if you have attended one?
