If it was me I would cancel and go somewhere else, You'd still have the wait, but it would be better from someone else now as this will always leave a bitter taste using this dealer.

I agree. Seems much more like saving a sale than rectifying their mistake.
I'm going to call the DP tomorrow and refuse to speak to anyone else from now on. Sales Manager had had their last chance. I called and left a message on Monday to return my call and have not been called back. Their customer service is a joke and they've still managed to win awards for it.
Summers gone and would like a reasonable gesture of goodwill regarding the matter.

You need more than just a reasonable gesture of goodwill!
Be prepared to put your walking boots on then do a trawl of other dealers. I'm sure there are others who would like your money and who will treat you as a customer.
If this is how the sales Department treat their customers then what is the service department going to be like if you have a problem?

All money returned and go elsewhere! I wouldn't hang about waiting to see what happens.
They are obviously a bunch of monkeys who can't get the basics right and who have no concept of customer care.
The popularity of sports cars doesn't improve as winter approaches. Look at the used (Z4) car prices in the springtime!

When I got my Z4 last year it spent ages in the dealer and although they gave me loan cars, none were convertibles, meanwhile the sun was shining...I was paying for a Z4 but driving a 1 series with dealer advertising all over it! They dont seem to realise we buy these cars for the weather!
Unless you are prepared to walk, then I wouldn't bother calling....you need a decent "threat" otherwise they wont care, but obviously, if you threaten to walk away, you need to be prepared to do it.
One thing that springs to my mind is to ask to have a loan Z4 for the interim period. Perhaps not of same spec, but a Z4 all the same. BMW allegedly have such "loan" cars available. They offered Carol one I think when her car was being re-ordered. I dont think it materialised, but think its a possibility.
So perhaps put it to them that you want such a loan car until yours arrives, or you want a refund and then go elsewhere. Give them a few days to sort it out.
