I am assuming the majority of you guys are older so insurance isnt an issue but I just turned 24 and insurance on the 20i is so difficult to get. I got rejected from all the main companies and only some crappy internet companies offered insurance for around 2500 quid which is ridiculous.
If it wasnt for the 18i I wouldnt have been able to get a z4 (insurance is 1 grand). Also my z4 with £2300 of optional extras is costing me just over 26k, which I doubt I would be able to get on a 20i.
Having said all of that as soon as im 25 and insurance is more reasonable I will be getting rid of this and going for a much bigger engine.
It does take the piss a bit that they reduced the power for the 18i, removed a couple of options but you get no benefit in terms of economy and road tax...so agreed for the majority of people its a pointless option.
Times have changed, when I first started to drive it was a racy 1.2 Toyota Starlet followed by a 1.5 Mazda 323 GT and I had to build my insurance no claims up over the years until I could anything remotely quick. I guess kids of today want it all from the off, except they have to pay for it.
Tim.
