Found A Mistake In My Contract

Thanks for the clarification, I must have somehow come across an out of date but live link when searching. Checked the configurator and adding the msport did increase the contribution as stated to a figure near the advertised contribution. Strangely the contribution on my original contract is higher than that advertised. Maybe another mistake, but one to my benefit.
I've made no progress so have enquired with another dealer and waiting for their reply.

The dealers have build slots, i.e. cars allocated to them in the build schedule. when I ordered mine, the salesman looked at the next one available out of their slot, picked that, then made all the changes to the spec. I think you can make changes to it until a week or 2 prior to build? Although I don't know about the engine.

They acknowledged it was their fault.
I'm not interested in the 1.8. I doubt they could give me enough off to make me interested in it. They did want me to pursue that option but had to wait till Monday to speak to the principal. Why this wasn't done before and other options explored prior to an appointment made several days in advance is beyond me.
They're going to have a look at what's coming through build wise and see if there's a similar spec available, otherwise it'll be the end of July. Which sucks missing the summer and ending up so close to the plate change.
Not sure whether I should deal with someone more senior from now or just go with another dealer and cancel it. They are going to have to come back with some decent compensation.

Might also be worth asking them to source higher spec cars at no cost to you as a goodwill gesture?
Sorry, I don't know the exact spec/colour you were after but offer some form of flexibility in return for them getting you something that has most of what you consider essential?

I told them I'd rather cancel than have the 1.8 which lead to them checking what was available. There also quite aware that I can get the same spec cheaper elsewhere if ordering from scratch.
I'll ask them about higher spec car availability, I'd certainly be more flexible if I'm getting more for my money.
The thing which galls me most, is was their inability to confirm whether the order was amendable a fortnight ago when asked. I would be two weeks closer now to the car I wanted if they had.

That dealership sounds like it is being run by idiots.
I just call my salesman or pop in to the dealership and he pulls up all my z4 details instantly. It tells u exactly where your car is up to in production and if the order can be amended. When you asked them about it they should have told you whether or not it was ammendable in the matter of minutes.
Definitely complain about the service, that's not acceptable at all. I hope you find s new z4 soon

Salesman is obviously just trying to brush the matter under the carpet and hope you'd go along with it and perhaps a few extras like servicing thrown in.
I'd cancel immediately and go to another dealer as this will always leave a sour taste. Been in a similar position with a dealer albeit on a used car. Went elsewhere and never been happier. Perhaps leave one out that direct communication with the dealer principle resolve and see what he does. Courtesy car from now, higher spec. For same price, etc.
Btw why not try a car broker and see what veal they come up with. You might be suprised.

Simon, haven't re-read through the thread but have you test driven a 1.8? From the reviews I have read it does sound as though its down on power and the car struggles so I would definitely be looking at the 2.0. Don't be fobbed off with freebies for their mistake on the order, get it changed or cancel and walk away with your deposit. The dealer is their to pander to your needs not the other way around.

I drove a 1.8 manual and an older 3.0 auto. The 1.8 certainly feels flat once into the higher rev range. Was also told that during the test drive. It also misses out on dual climate, rain sensors and auto headlights which the 2.0 has. Difference in price after dealer contribution is both is a few hundred, so the 2.0 is definitely the one to go for. If they can't sweeten the deal on the 2.0, I will go elsewhere.
I agree on some points about the 18i however I think it caters perfectly for someone like myself. I am assuming the majority of you guys are older so insurance isnt an issue but I just turned 24 and insurance on the 20i is so difficult to get. I got rejected from all the main companies and only some crappy internet companies offered insurance for around 2500 quid which is ridiculous.
If it wasnt for the 18i I wouldnt have been able to get a z4 (insurance is 1 grand). Also my z4 with £2300 of optional extras is costing me just over 26k, which I doubt I would be able to get on a 20i.
Having said all of that as soon as im 25 and insurance is more reasonable I will be getting rid of this and going for a much bigger engine.
It does take the piss a bit that they reduced the power for the 18i, removed a couple of options but you get no benefit in terms of economy and road tax...so agreed for the majority of people its a pointless option.
