Forum Glitches - Timing out

Possible for someone to set up a "back up" forum in case it was needed. Would just need to be basic to start with, just a place to migrate to if the worst happened?

a decent host with server space and good mgmt can be upwards of £100 per month. You then need access to the database in the background and source code, as the admins may have made specific changes to the base code which has resulted in database changes. Hopefully admin is otherwise occupied temporarily and will be back to sort us out soon.

But with the revenue it generates from the ads, it is a profit centre (I don't need to tell you  )

Whilst I agree with you, Rome wasn’t built in a day!
It takes a while for the revenue to build up.
I would way the bigger issue would be getting the data. I’m not sure if anyone has created a phpbb scraper yet. Would assume someone had.
If you could scrape the data it’s dead easy to spin up a domain and database etc.

Been struggling the past few days and only working intermittently or I get a time out page. It wouldn't allow me to log on earlier and saying my password was incorrect and then all of a sudden it would let me in.

Tim.

In the hope that Jim sees this, I would suggest he checks the number of records in the notifications table. It could be the case that the site is slow due to the volume. When you access the site or post a thread, the table is checked to see if anyone needs to be notified by email or have a notification displayed at the top of the site. Depending on what you had posted or were subscribed to, this could result in you being notified quite a bit. I had a situation a few years back where the table wasn’t getting cleared down and there was over a million records on it. May not sound like much, but was the cause of similar performance issues.
This may not be the cause now, but at least something to quickly look at.

It is getting really bad, now.

So bad that I forget what bollox I was going to post. So every cloud......

I spent 10 minutes typing a comprehensive explanation of a fix to someone over the pond.
Pressed 'submit' and the site fell over again so it was all lost!

I have actually now got a word doc that I type stuff into first, then paste in, to save me losing it all again.
Sounds ridiculous but otherwise people i need of assistance won't get it as I'll just give up!

All the mods and admin have been active recently so fingers crossed they are solving any issues in the background. Happy to make donations of funds will help

Your commitment to help your fellow Z4 lovers is great to see. We're lucky to have you here, even if the site doesn't make it very easy right now :D

I have typing out my messages, then a qucik highlight and "Ctrl - C" to copy to clipboard. That way if it falls over I can easily repaste with "Ctrl - V"

Guys, I am aware of the issue. I have been away but am back now so can do some investigation. I don't suspect there is a magic bullet, so please be patient.

Thanks for letting us know. Weren't aware you were away.
Fingers crossed you can sort it.

Good to know you're still on it for us.

Still not seeing any major glitches. I'm running Chrome on Windows10. Get the odd slow update, but no time outs or hang ups observed.
