Can you drop the 'roadster' bit?....I was in a Toyota Corolla GTI (rushing home to watch Baywatch, honestly!! :titshake: )

just goes to show how slow a zed is, stopping for the police on the M8... shocking behaviour!!! :poke: :poke:

hope you don't suffer too much, they were out in force for the bike show, thankfully I crawled by them at 48.2mph in the Jeep...

:D

good effort!

I shall follow your lead if I ever get caught after a sneeze induced surge.

I once got caught up in a group of cars cruising between 115 to 125 coming out of north Wales. About a dozen cars in all. It was the longest most ludicrous excess speeding event I have ever witnessed though it felt quite safe. Once there were more than ten of us I couldn't see how the old bill would pull us all in.

And another anecdote.

A mate was let off when exceeding 90mph by traffic cops on the M18 after he explained that he was rushing to catch the chip shop! I think they liked his chutzpah.

The police aren't always humourless.

No chance of getting it to 96 then I guess as that is the maximum fun for 3 points ...

Not always - I was given 3 points and a £60 fine for averaging 108mph over five miles of the M4 in Wiltshire.... I thought I was having fun with a BMW 335d on an otherwise empty motorway but it turned out the bastard was just gathering evidence against me and wasn't having any fun at all!

Yes he was......

"Let's see what we can get him up to before he twigs...."
:poke:
My worst was

100.4mph over 2 miles.

6 pts £150 fine July 2000 - S.Yorks Police -
" Its a good job you got stuck behind those two lorries for half a mile" :driving:
in a Passat Estate. Doing a quick errand for work - I had my Lab Coat on at 7am on a Saturday Morning.
Needless to say they breathalysed me......

3 pts and £ 60 for 92 on the M74 with a scamera van, 2010, so they can be lenient.

My view on the speed limit is I know I can handle it but everyone else who does it is an idiot.

Hope some leniency is shown, you were only at 60% of your vehicles top speed. Judging by the number of dawdling, lane hogging one headlight morons I encountered on the m25/m11 Sunday night there are bigger problems to fix first...

A work colleague was stopped by the police on the M6 in the early eighties - think he was on a Yamaha Genesis (?)
Patrol car radioed ahead to another unit.

Do you know what speed you were doing sir?
No officer
128 mph sir

Now bearing in mind this guy had a stutter
Well, you do do don't want to look down at that speed cos is F%cking dangerous!

Got took to court and succesfully argued it could have been someone else on a similar bike - going to fast to get his number
Amazing as I think they were as rare as hens teeth at the time

Some good (but very wreckless and dangerous, bad people :P ) stories in here...

I won't share mine, but to be serious for a second...

@OP

If you feel the need to get some help, here is the link to my Scottish motor lawyer (I have an English one too... :headbang: )

He is very good, and has... err.... helped me out before...

I got pulled for doing 90mph in a 1.3 Metro when I was younger on the M5. Got let off with a stern warning, and didnt go a tickle over 70 for the rest of the journey!

Sorry, but I just had to chuckle at that!

Being on a number of car forums over the years and people always think its perfectly acceptable to speed and everyone else is wrong and the Police are the evil eye.

I guess its the same people that speed through flood water.

You can get killed at any speed but better at 50mph than 100mph.

Tim.

What is your definition of "speed" though?

If a road was always 60, then reduced to 40 for no reason, then when you continue to drive the same way you are suddenly speeding. It is all about appropriate speed, not an actual number reading.

I drive according to the circumstances, which may be above or below the sign posted artificial limit.

Tim - yes, going over the limit is illegal, no one can deny that, and the Police are only doing their job.

Ultimately there is no excuse, expect perhaps in a limited number of cases.

However, until the attitude changes from "worried about getting caught" to "worried about having a crash" it is not going to change.

I am much better with my adhesion to the correct limits nowadays, but might have some "moments"....

Also, some of the limits are too low for the conditions, even though I admit the law is the law. Also, as I mentioned earlier, what about the people that drive too slow for the road? It should be illegal to drive at say, 50 on the motorway when everyone else is doing 70ish.

The other factor, apart from road conditions, are driver ability - I take note about my earlier Z4M comment....I would HOPE anyone with such a car also has the ability, but agree, some wont.

Tim - no need for the flood water comment - is that a dig at someone? Out of context in this thread.

Will you get Oscar Pistorius' autograph for me in the slammer pal?

I agree Kevin, driving too slow can be worse in some circumstances than too fast, the people that annoy me are the ones who drive fast just because they can with total disregard for their own safety and worse others, normally the ones as the example I used i.e. driving too fast through flood water, tailgating and general bad road manners, one reason why I think road tests should be done on regular basis and then perhaps peoples lax in driving ability may change.

P.S, no dig at anyone, they are well and truly forgotten and sitting nicely on the forum ignore list. I seem to remember on that particular thread a number of people thought wrongly it was acceptable to drive at speed through flood water, its simply driver education :)

No sympathy here I'm afraid. Over 100mph on a public highway is inexcusable. I'll probably get slammed for saying this, but such is life.

100 mph is nothing :) it is only 160km /h

250km/h is something ( car or bike )

I'm sorry Tim, but that comment is inflammatory and not relevant. If you have an issue against speeding in general or inappropriate speeding then make your case, but trying to score points by referencing a different thread and argument is out of order.
