An empty road is hardly reckless.

Inappropriate speed is an issue, not speed itself.

I share this view. I don't condone reckless driving, but think that inappropriate use of speed is the real issue.

Idiots driving at 70mph in heavy rain/snow are far worse than someone driving at 100mph on an empty motorway in dry, daylight conditions.

Hope you don't get a ban.... fingers crossed a fine and some points

Sorry to hear - my Brother in law was picked up doing 103 mph on an empty motorway in Cheshire. Got 6 points and a hefty fine, but no ban. Fingers crossed for you.

No sympathy here I'm afraid. Over 100mph on a public highway is inexcusable. I'll probably get slammed for saying this, but such is life.

You never done 100mph on a public highway? Sell the Z!

Hope you get a lenient punishment OP! :driving:

......... it seemed like a good idea at the timer yer honour ......

Im thinking they might send me to the big house .... I'll maybe get to discover my feminine side ....

Read his posts again...he's not looking for sympathy nor should he.

Owning a Z4M surely implies some capability in handling the thing at speed.

Speed isn't reckless...its speed in the wrong context that is dangerous (as said above).

Yes - speed can cause horrific accidents, but in this case, if the road was clear he wasn't putting others at risk.

And ok, he could've lost it, had a blow out and crashed etc, but anything can happen, even when not speeding.

If it was classed as dangerous, then why does Germany have roads that you can travel fast on?

ok, in this country its against the law, and the OP accepts that, but it was unlucky to get caught.

How many people can HONESTLY say they have never gone over the speed limit - if you can say that genuinely, then fair enough, but I doubt many can, and in that car, which is built for speed, then its probably safer than some of the tiny s**t-boxes you see doing 70 on the motorway - or even some of the dangerous types who drive too slowly for the road...i.e. 40 on dual carriageway when everyone else is doing 60+ etc. On some roads, there should be a realistic bottom end speed limit.

The only thing I disagree with is the first sentence. Apart from that, well said

It is very easy to break the speed limit, especially when 3rd gear takes you over 100mph

Not that I'd know

When the summons comes through, plead not guilty, get the solicitor to agree a plea to less than 100, which is done often and you will keep your licence. If it is 101 that doesnt mean an auto ban, there is a bit of lea way and the other circumstances are taken into consideration like empty road, weather etc...from my experience on that side of the fence.

Sounds like you're taking it very well - the only way to handle it really!

Clear road, lots of lanes, Z4M - can't say i'd of done any different, though i do have my speed alert beeper thing set to 95 and that triggers my five-o spider sense. Lets hope they're lenient, you're in a car that does 100mph from cruising speed if you sneeze, and on an empty road too.

They really need to bring in more police discretion and up the motorway limits (and fix driver training to reflect this .. or simply train drivers at all in the motorway arena..)

Speed isn't dangerous, idiot drivers are. I wasn't there to say if it was safe or not, but in my eyes its unsafe driving that deserves points, because the law barely reflects the roads and cars we drive.

70mph NSL was introduced in 1966 according to Wikipedia, you'd hope the Z4M has better brakes, handling and traction than other cars introduced in 1966...

(yes yes, there's more cars on the road..)

We really need a TV campaign to teach people to use motorway lanes correctly - hours of my life wasted sat in pointless traffic, even the French can manage this.. but that's another debate.

well the polis made a point of saying there would be no dangerous driving ..... and I did have a good attitude etc etc etc ..... Not sure I can plead not guilty when I already said "fair cop" ...... :D be a bit of a cheek

Im thinking, take the points, pay the fine, move on ...... get greased by the insurance etc .....
even if its a ban, Im not expecting more than 3 months ......

anyway, how many people can say they got nicked for 101 mph days before their 60th birthday ..... I mean, bad as it is ..... it does carry a bit of street cred and all that  now that Im a proper Crim, maybe I should start working on my image

couple of months in the slammer would go down quite well just now, haven't had a proper holiday for years, no phones .... no email ...... imagine !

Had a friend years ago who got nicked in Holland in his 911 ...... all it said on the ticket was "in excess of 256 km/hr ...."

In his own words ..... the resale value of his car went up about 5 times what the fine was ..... he did after all have a certificate proving the cars top speed done by professionals using calibrated equipment :D

I too hope you only get points and a fine ........but if the worse thing happens and you get time.......don't get the KY and the superglue mixed up

No, not 100mph. I accelerate hard when the opportunity arises, but I don't drive fast.

Read his posts again...he's not looking for sympathy nor should he.

I was referring to the sympathetic views expressed by others. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the police or our ridiculously inflexible limits, but I just think that 100mph on a public road is just much too fast.
