Finally doing my custom headlights !!!

Ok so I’ve been threatening to do my headlight upgrade for over a year now and finally got around to doing it as below

Headlight upgrade time!

Stage 1: cut open ✔️

Stage 2: clean everything ✔️

Stage 3: prep and check everything

Stage 4: mount and wire everything

Stage 5: check everything works and seal

Stage 6: fit to car and admire 😍

Massive thank you to Iamorion for helping me cut these open and showing/explaining how the new components will work etc. 👍🏽
Hopefully he can source his final xenon so he can get his custom lights sorted soon also!!

Everything cut open and ready to start:

Rear covers and lens after a quick clean:

Majority of the inners separates and cleaned:

Going for 2 x 80mm RGB halos with independently controlled RGB devil eyes :fuelfire:

And I currently have 8 headlights  1 set of Sonars on the car which I will sell after, 1 set im doing the install to for myself, 1 set I will probably do a basic angel eye upgrade to after mine to sell to try and recoup some of the ridiculous amount of money I have spent on all these parts and 1 set is beyond repair so will just sell the parts if possible

just showin off :) old and new is my guess

Some were purely brought for inner parts. They had broken tabs and housings but I can now make 4 good lights with black or silver inners with clear indicators/hockey’s

Bloody hell Jamie, how many headlights are you fitting :o

I was thinking that too. Why so many different sets? :?

Didn't you know, Jingle has multiples of everything - including hardtops :D

And bonnets
Wheels
Bumpers
Skirts
Steering wheel trim
RPi scoops
ZHP gear knobs
Handbrake handles
Footwell mats
Wheelarch liners
Engine under trays
Grills
Roll hoops
Springs
Etc. Etc.

Thinking about it I REALLY need to sort it all out and put some up for sale  :headbang:

Jesus!!!
I need to do myself a set of lights at some point. I was looking at devil eye led's last night :)
Looking forward to this.

Also Jingle, if you have a lower grill for an e85 front bumper............

Where were you thinking of fitting them, in place of fogs? or somewhere else.

For a long while i have been thinking of replacing fogs with something like:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Light-Proj...43407873&sr=1-8&keywords=angel+eye+fog+lights

It would need a fair amount of mods to make them fit and I am not convinced that the light output from the fog will be enough and have concerns over the life of the LEDS.

You would put them in the headlight projector.

I did toy with the idea of adding some kind of projector fogs so that I could control them too, but not really anywhere to put them on a //M bumper (although I have just got a spare //M bumper grill to look at cutting in some small LED fogs once I’ve finished the headlights)

Couple of questions if anybody is able to suggest anything...

1. As I will no longer need the indicators bulbs, I’m thinking of just carbon wrapping the hockey’s.... would i need to block off the indicator bulbs at all, or could I simply remove the bulbs and code the bulb check out (so that I don’t have a dash light on?)

2. Headlight restoration kits? Any suggestions as to which kit is best, I could do with polishing up all the lenses and seeing what they all come out like, ideally 1 of the drill attachment type kits ?!

3. Sealant, I have some tiger seal to use to re-seal the lights once complete, any suggestions as to anything better or confirmation that would be fine?

Thanks all :)

No it would be for the headlights, I have seen those fog light ones but like yourself I wasn't sure on the output. Im thinking it might have to be the Morimoto DS3 or DS4's with some devil eyes thrown in for good measure.

Jingle - I used Quixx for my headlights, its not a drill based one but it was good, came with a sealant as well. Theres also a proper headlight sealant for joining them together but I cant remember what its called??? I found it on ebay though....

I know you can code out the voltage check for the bulbs but would that mean you could take them out without a warning??

Would you not keep the wiring? To power whatever else you'll be using?

Yes I’ll be tapping into the wiring for the switchbacks, but I don’t want the 2 switchbacks and the 2 bulbs flashing... I only want to see the switchbacks flashing so need to either blank off the hockey or remove the bulbs and code out (if possible)

Why not just use the wire for power and forget tapping. You don't need an extra connection, just cut off the indicator plug and wire it straight up to the switchback? Then you can just code out voltage checks (like what people do when they go LED).
