Finally doing my custom headlights !!!

Why not just use the wire for power and forget tapping. You don't need an extra connection, just cut off the indicator plug and wire it straight up to the switchback? Then you can just code out voltage checks (like what people do when they go LED).

Yea that’s an idea!

For all intents and purposes that's exactly what you'd be doing anyway so to speak  -- you may as well just tap into the wire and just remove the bulb instead of cutting it

The problem however is I'm not sure you can "code out" the bulbs. I believe you can code out the voltage check (which is what can cause flicker in LED bulbs) but pretty sure you can't code out the check entirely.

One alternative would be to use load resistors perhaps - but I personally don't like using them... (Just a personal preference).... Although I wonder if there's such a think as a Load resistor in the form factor of the bulb.

The other thing to be aware of, is that it's not practical to simple remove the hockey stick part as it just looks odd without, hence why in my current ones I wrapped them. The plus side of wrapping them is that you can leave the bulbs in place and you wont see them anyway (As long as you have decent quality wrap that is... you could always put on 2 layers of wrap if needed)

Ok so got around to testing everything works and it all does and looks soooo good!!

Time to start the rebuild!

They are ridiculously bright

Big thanks again to IamOrion helping me with the wringing etc

They are much thinner than all the other upgrades I have seen aswell which is what I was after, hopefully get them all bonded into place over the weekend so can actually see them all in situ better :fuelfire:

You're very welcome mr copy cat  - only getting yours done first because of the delay in me getting a spare drivers xenon hahaha :P :P

They look great though 8)

On a side note - I didn't realise phpBB rotated images dependant on device?? When I viewed this earlier on my phone, the pic you posted above was the correct way round... now on laptop and it's sideways lol

They look great!! If I didn't have my eye on another upgrade I'd be tempted to copy as well!! Lol

 haha - I look forward to seeing your take on a headlight upgrade too then - have you got your stuff ordered, or do you mean an aftermarket set?

I'd cut open mine (or a spare set). I like the look of the morimotos as replacement projectors too.

I did look at the Morimotos first, as well as the halos they sell on the retrofit source.

I was thinking just yesterday as I was talking with JINGLE about stuff that I'd love a double projector for double devil eyes. I'm not sure how one would go about doing it though, but morimoto I think would be the way

Double projectors would be awesome. Two sets of morimotos would make for an excellent headlight. With a single devil eye either side :)

Here's a question, if your modifying the internals can you use a halogen headlight on a xenon car??
Can the auto level still be used if you do??

The real question is why would you want you!? (Other than getting hold of spare xenons is a PITA and more expensive than halogen lol)

Exactly that lol. I wasn't sure on how it all worked, if the mechanism or mounting points were common across both units? Just obviously not use on halogen models.

From memory, I believe the Xenon has an additional pin on the headlight socket - which controls a solenoid or something else (I forget to be honest) that isn't in the halogen. As far as I Know though, the plug from the car to the headlight has all connections BUT I've not looked into so wouldn't know for sure... I suspect you could, but don't know if it requires different coding in the light switch module or anything etc...

Personally I wouldn't bother - best to go like for like IMO.

I've literally just bought a Drivers side xenon but it's taken me a good few weeks to get ahold of one! I was lucky to find a Passenger Xenon when I did, but now I've finally got a 'spare' set I can set about making mine when it arrives! Then I'll sell on my current custom xenons :)

2. Headlight restoration kits? Any suggestions as to which kit is best, I could do with polishing up all the lenses and seeing what they all come out like, ideally 1 of the drill attachment type kits ?!

I hand sanded with progressively fines wet and dry (used wet). My lights were mildly bloomed, started with 800g, then 1200g, 1500g 2000g I finished off with paint polisher as used for freshly sprayed cars which is very very mildly abrasive (T cut is too course). Used this on a 3" foam electric drill pad.

Cost very little to do and much cheaper than kits, came up like new.

Spoke to my body shop when collecting the bonnet at the weekend and my mate said he can do the sanding and restoring etc and then properly spray the UV laquer coat etc so they will be as good as factory (if not better) which would be much better than the kit.... depends if he can fit them in in time is all.

If not I will prob go down the same route as you, I’m just conscious about reapplying the UV coat so they don’t haze up any time soon

Definitely sand and lacquer for a long term solution - polishing the lens and applying sealant will not last long before it needs re-doing.
