Hi all,i have been asked what fault code my car keeps throwing up,i have rang my indy this morn and as above 29F4 i was told, any thoughts?-thanks

Been told it could be just the short runs i have been doing that has clogged the cat,and all thats needed is a few good run outs to clear it out, anyone believe this?

Certainly would'nt hurt giving it a go.

I put a can of this fuel cleaner in mine in a full tank of fuel and I'm hopeful that this will clean out any carbon that may have built up. My car has done 34,500 miles so I thought it was worth a shot.

Thanks mate-can you notice any difference?

Havn't been out in it yet but am going to put a can in my Series 1 tomorrow and fill it up with petrol so I'll keep you updated.

Sorry ,i just wanted to add that my indy advised me strongly not to put an additive in the petrol. :(

My Indy recommended it. On another thread a Z4 car that failed an emissions test on the MOT passed the next day after he added a can of BG44K fuel cleaner in a full tank of petrol and then gave it a bit of spirited driving. The reviews for this product are excellent.

Out of interest Andy have you tried seeing what the actual emissions are like from your exhaust using one of those MoT probe gizmos?
Just a thought as I had the light just before my MoT last week and the exhaust was a clean as a whistle.
'If' this code is supposed to be a total CAT failure, then surely the engine would be pumping out all kinds of bad shite that can be read by the probe?
If on the other hand the readings are fine, then it's not the CAT and you'll have to start looking at things like the pre/post O2 sensor routing etc.
It sounds to my unexpert gut feeling that you might have a rubbing cable or suchlike which could explain the intermittent fault.

Hey good point mate, never thought of that  -i would of thought my indy would have tho?-like i have stated on here it shows no signs of loss of power,no knocking, popping sounds,no sulphur smell, can i just pop into a garage and ask to pay for a reading?

Don't see why not as their equipment is going to be much more sensitive than any sensor in your car.
I was lucky in that because mine came on the day before the MOT I could be nosey while they were testing the emissions and as I've said they disregard any warning lights/codes as they have to rely of what is physically being pumped out the back.
Just tell them that you think you car is telling you porkies about the cat and I'm sure they'll give it a quick probe as it were...
Of course, if it comes back as breathable air, then your quest starts to find out what the real cause is.
My money is on frayed/damaged cabling probably when they fitted the new o2 sensors....
