Farewell my love Zed

Ah the time came yesterday when I said farewell to my beautiful Z4 Roadster, Burt. 2.5l, 2004, ellipsoids, heated leather seats, chrome exhausts :o
It was bloody hard. The new owner came over after work. The money had been transferred into my account okay. I went to pick the new owner up at the train station. Before that, I contemplated scratching the car, taking the engine out, running away with it and eloping far far away. I really didn't want to say goodbye.

The car has been wonderful. Apart from one broken spring, a broken coil, and selfish idiots scratching it, one rear puncture (driving over a metal rod left in the road by another selfish person in Uxbridge whilst on the way to work). I was very grumpy last night.

I have such fond memories of drives, some horrible drives in the snow or lack of movement, meeting people on this Forum, learning new things about Z4s, silly stupid jokes on the Forum, and high-jacking someone elses Zed to go to Isle of Islay meet, Lake District meet. Taking the Burt to Surrey/Sussex and London meets.

*Big sigh. I miss it. However I don't miss the lowness of the car (I am too midget to see over the bonnet and must admit I had a 90s old cushion to sit on in the driver's seat) and being a bit scared sometimes about parking it. I still miss it though.   :driving:

I want another in the future, maybe another same generation Roadster or the Coupe *with a can opener. Oh and I would like to come to more meets.

parting with a favourite car is never easy .
at least you really enjoyed the whole Z ownership experience & as you say there can be others .
best of luck with the replacement .
was it a golf mkV ? if so then you should be happy .
great cars & always enjoy buzzing about in ours

I feel for you - what a sad post

Hopefully you'll be back to a Z soon, and on meets in the meantime

Well done on the sale! Goes to show what a detailed ad and some *ahem* top quality photos will do  Also, I think when a car is that loved it does show and makes for an easier sale.

I wonder if the new owner will be able to get it to rev above 3,500rpm? :P

Oddly, that you did manage to get up towards the red line :o Egged on from the passenger of course :driving:

Hang around miss daisy, get Matt to bring you on a run, be good to see him to.
Definitely... will likely be 2013 now though - especially as a few of you will be wrapping up your cars for winter. Have been too distracted by the 924 (will update that post while I'm here) so be good to be nudged out of retirement!

Seems like I've not been on the forum for ages, but then again...

Bit sad that :(
But what yer getting next :)

Hey. Yep, still sad. Coco pops for breakfast this morning went a little way to cheer me up today.

Mr Wilks, yes, the replacement is a Golf mkV. There is a buzz about the Golf. Surprisingly powerful for a 1.6. I went for that to try and save on insurance and tax and avoid putting extra miles on the Zed. I would have kept it running as a second car, which I did for a while at the start, if money was no object at the moment. Did consider the 1.9tdi which I test drove, however, when it came to the crunch and number crunching in terms of the price at the garages, the 1.4l pipped it (Grr VW stealer for charging what in my opinion was almost £2500 over reasonable price). I wanted something cheaper with insurance than Burt, however, having just added a named driver that's early twenties, with less than two years car licence, though more years motorbike licence, it's a massive £750. Ridiculous. Anyhow, good for my bro to get some driving experience (and encourage him a cage with airbags is safer). Which Golf do you guys have? And one other Q, do you or anyone else suggest a good Forum for that car? :)

Hey Tazzy. I seriously would love that. They just look the bomb. Or quite sexy. Quite nice. But I would also want a convertible. What would you suggest? :driving:

Well Mario, I will definitely stick around, thank you  . Another run, well I'll see if Matt can put up with a whinging passenger!! He's moonlighting with some other cars though apparently! Think he's got porkers on the brain. :P

have used vwaudiforum.co.uk for information but it isn't as intimate or friendly as z4-forum :)
sure if you have any probs you could post here for help ?
anyhow here's mrs wilks's shopping rocket :D . GTtdi / http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q576/beaucostil/golf18s003.jpg
comfy,quick & 50mpg

Don't go away, stay for the banter! The MkV is a great car, I had an edition 30 and loved it. I just put too many miles on so she had to go.

Sorry to hear this oaksandacorns!
Good to meet you on the z4 meet earlier this year and best of luck with the future cars!
Si

Sorry to hear you've sold up - but do hang around and hope you can make another trip up to Scotland - maybe in 2013. Good luck with the Golf !

Noooooooooo!

Sorry to hear. A sad day indeed. What next?

Thank you putter whore. I now have a little Golf 1.6 FSI. But I am wishing that it was louder inside the car. I kinda want a sound generator or something. Grrrr. It's a bit like what Ally was saying in another thread, missing some louder engine noise :driving:
