Managed to keep away from any news before bbc highlights - really good to see the trio back with all the banter and found the whole race exciting despite the fact that it wasn't live. Whilst Lewis is exciting to watch he does come over as a moody git and I can't stand seeing Nicole ( got herself back with him ) posing and trying to look interested - JB on the other hand is a tactician who can deliver and is a true champion and has a good sense of humour - and his girlfriend looks natural and lovely ( lucky sod ). Up yours Sky I'll stick with the BBC !!

Big round of applause to BBC, I thought they did an excellent job. Don't have sky and was a bit gutted for this season (I will never get sky on prinicple) - but the BBC coverage was excellent. Hope it can continue and the Murdoch empire doesn't consume and steal anymore next season :thumbsdown:

The first F1 race I get to watch with my new baby boy and I was really disappointed with the BBC coverage. Probably it was because it wasn't the whole race and I was constantly trying to find where they had chopped bits out. I don't mind the fact it wasn't live as I managed to avoid hearing the result, but can I do that for every non-live race ? Given the 'prime time' slot it was in, probably not.
A pox on BBC, Sky and Bernie. I am seriously thinking of deleting F1 from my recording list and spending the time washing the Z.

As we were away on a forum run and stayed in a b&b with no Sky, I woke up at 6am and knowing i wouldn't get back to sleep I went out in the car to listen to it on the radio I parked up on the rocky coast and sat back and enjoyed the Race, It sounded brilliant. and the view from here to Ireland was a great canvas.
I thought the Sky coverage was excellent - and will only get better. Really good that there is no mid race ads like there was on ITV.
Shame the BBC let us down to spend money elsewhere as their coverage the last few years was amazing, but I suppose it had to be done!?

Anyone who can't get Sky F1 and is going to rely on BBC highlights, you may have had a result
1] Picture quality in HD, no comparison. Watched the races on BBC1 HD last year and was ok but the sky pictures are better. I presume that the BBC was captured in normal and then played through the HD channel, where as Sky have filmed in HD?
2] Commentary was shocking don't know who this Crofty is, never heard him before, even Martin Brundell seemed off

I think people, generally, not just on here, are being a little hard on Sky over this. As far as I am aware they didn't go in with a really high offer, it was the BBC that didn't put up enough (compared to last year) that lost it for them - instead of making cuts to dross reality TV shows.

The Sky team were clunky and I think they could do well to lose a few of the presenters and tweek the format, but the BBC weren't that great when they first started, so maybe these guys will improve, if not to the BBC's standards. I do like Jake, but he's starting to annoy me by pretending that the BBC have equal coverage to Sky - nothing beats seeing the race when it happens.
As with many sports, I think they should stay on the BBC, free to view - not ITV as they really do balls it up and put in far too many ads.
One good thing, Sky have paid attention to what the fans want to an extent, they went the entire race, medal presentation and post race interview without any ads.
I would be happier though if it went back to the BBC. Interestingly many of the real die hard fans took a stand against Sky, refusing to get the package, up until the point they realised they were going to miss the first race, then got on the phone, but that's the die hards.

is it sad that i was up all night from friday to sunday, i was expecting good things from mercedes and was kind of disapointed during the race. watching the in car cams, mercedes were the only cars that looked planted on track all weekend so for mclaren, redbull and alonso to do so well i give it to the drivers. did anyone see romain grosjean in qualifying

very interesting article in autosport last week explaining why Jensen has made it good at mclaren in contrast to what everybody had thought and expected. Compares and contrasts how the two drivers plan and prepare.
Wasn't too disappointed watching the extended highlights on the BBC, but it was horrible having to avoid TV/Radio all day

Indeed, Gary Anderson's post race analysis inferred exactly the same thing, Jenson spent time making sure that his car was fast in race trim and hence the difference in speed during this initial laps where he built a 3.5 sec lead. If Lewis hadn't made a poor start it would have been interesting to see what would of happened in the race as clearly Jenson had the quicker race car. As a fan of Jenson, I know that for doing one off very fast laps, Lewis is much better at dragging every last inch of performance out of the car, but I do believe that Jenson is more consistently faster during the race.

Strangely one of the bits on the BBC I missed the most was actually after the race :- it's when the 3 podium drivers get into the room where they're given their watches, hats and bottles of water etc. When you're allowed to see & hear it there can be some fascinating body language between drivers. It's when you get to see who really is happy with a 1st, 2nd or 3rd and who's really pissed at someone else.
Delighted JB won the race, this year was supposedly (and still could be) the year when Lewis was going to "put him back in his place" or some such rubbish often said by the Hamilton fans. Instead it demonstrated that (as said above) Lewis has not really learnt anything from last year it seems. It shows how important for a driver the years in a crap car building your career are.
It looks like it could be a good season. Neither RBR or McLaren seem too dominant, and I'd have loved to see where Schumacher could have got that Merc if he'd not had the trouble. If Kimi fixes his qualifying and stops slowing for blue flags, Lotus could be up there on occasion too. Was a shame for Sauber I thought - they showed promise in the practices and then seemed to screw up qualy, then spend the rest of the race trying to recover. If their car is back into or at the front of the midfield pack then both Kobayashi and Perez could make for some really entertaining races.
