F-Type Coupe

Full details at Autocar. Nice to see that each equivalent Coupe version is £7k cheaper than the Roadster. An admission that the Roadster is too expensive perhaps? Which seems to be a universal criticism.

EDIT: It also actually has a boot you can use too!! 407 litres of luggage space.

Also nice to see a Coupe R version at £85k with 542bhp. Far better value than the V8S Roadster is.

Like nearly all Coupe versions of Roadsters, it's also a lot better looking but I'm still not a fan of the rear three-quarter detail or the rear end.

No doubt there will be endless comparisons with a 991. But it's not a 991 competitor. It competes more meaningfully with the Cayman S because it only has two seats. I know many people who can justify the 991 purchase to themselves (GT3 excluded of course) on the basis that it has 4 seats, even if the rear seats are tiny. If you have a young family for example.

EDITED again to include this. Sounds rather rude....

Lovely looking motor - though I prefer the roadster. And no, I'm not being :fuelfire: :D

I actually think I prefer the roadster.

The rear end ruins the lines of the coupé imo.

Either way, good to see it's a fair chunk cheaper!

Absolutely the best car I've seen in a long long time. I'd have that in a heartbeat. One can only hope this version is a tad more practical by actually having a boot too. The power with the extra rigidity of a coupe, fab. I hope they make a slightly different model as a 2+2 - 911 esque variant because that would tick every box for me.

Truly drop dead gorgeous car from any angle and remained true to the concept.

Love the option of an alloy or panoramic roof to overcome the sometime claustrohpobic feel of a coupe.

Good to see the price point drop so much too. Withouth doubt needed.

Forget what it's pitched against it'll be another step in the JLR revolution and will again sell all they can make.

+1  really been looking forward to this...not that I will ever be able to afford one though I will just have to enjoy reading about it! :D

At £51k before extras for the V6 version I think they've got the price much better than the Roadster. That's starting to look a candidate to appear on a lot of people's lists. I should imagine Porsche are a little more uncomfortable this morning about their Cayman sales projections.

And I repeat - it actually has a proper boot (big enough for 2 sets of golf clubs) and is 20kg lighter than the Roadster.

You make a great point regarding the Cayman & that is universally praised by most but I do think the type of punter in this type of market will find the Jag very appealing I would have thought...Jag seem on a roll currently.

It's nice to see a serious challenge from Jag. It is starting to offer an alternative to the big three German companies now, but there is a long way to go yet.

I suppose it leaves the Roadster model looking a bit awkward. £8k extra to have a heavier, less practical, slower car? Not so sure to be honest. Perhaps a price re-alignment might be a good idea or maybe dealer discounting. Either way they cocked the pricing strategy up royally with the Roadster.

I know most people have different opinions on Jags & with me only being 40 I do see them as the older generation type of car but I am probably wrong to think this & the performance & noise they offer certainly should keep the younger audience happy.

I agree OG & they certainly made the roadster overpriced for sure but it is brave of them to at least make the Coupe more competitive after being off the mark with the pricing of the soft top.

Well I'm only a little bit older (44) Lee, and I must admit I still think of them as "gin and Jag set" with the associated pot-bellied, cigar-smoking, camel overcoat, tweed sports jacket type driver.

Cars like this will be vital if they are to turn that image around. I didn't see if this was manual, auto or DCT transmission though? I don't like or want an Auto.

I mirror your view regards image & gearboxes & I don't know for sure but Jag just seem to shun the manual & I would imagine it will be the auto like all it's other performance motors.

Wow -Interesting on the pricing I'm not sure what their sales have been like on the roadster .

Incredible set of product launches in the last 12 months - RR , RRS and this in both guises. Marketing for each has Bren spot on RRS product launch with Daniel Craig in New York was very slick.

Next is a total relaunch of Freelander and Discovery .

The Autocar article says....

All coupé models utilise the eight-speed Quickshift transmission also found on the F-type roadster, but the R coupé’s software has been recalibrated to suit the greater engine outputs.

Yes I'd be interested in this. We get a lot of hype from Jag but so far I've only seen 2 Roadsters and I do a lot of miles up and down the country most weeks.

It's an 8 speed auto with some trickery for fast shifts. Of course has paddle shifts. Buyers in this sector have no real interest in a full manual and if they buy one it has no resale value.
Had an hour conversation with the designer Ian C a few months back :)

In terms of the comments of the profile of Jag buyers. Sadly the perception always lingers way behind the reality of the cars. One could argue that BMW is currently living on it's past reputation, rather than current. given the line up of so many bland and frugly cars.
