Ex demo cars.. Risky?

Well I went for White/White, and to date have not seen another one like it - come to think of it, living in London, this surprises me, I have not seen another white Z4 E89 on the roads....

I do love the white leather interior, though the only 35i I've seen with it is the black one I mentioned. I'm not struck on the blacksaph ext on photos, I'd need to see it to know really.

I've managed to get the black one down a grand from 34K to 33K, but that's not enough and I'm still working on them :) I wait to see what the other dealership can offer (white with red int 35i). I do love the look of the white ext, red int (drug dealer look as my brother calls it), my only grip being its not extended leather like the white leather is. They both have toys up the ying yang though! :)

If I have to, I'll just wait for the dealers to get bored and discount, I'm guessing they'll have to discount due to the market, winter slowdown and impending dent on peoples pockets with the VAT change..

As in that was when it was first put on for sale? (if so how did u know that) I'm guessing new it would be pushing 43K+ ish? I'm not sure if you are suggesting if thats a good deal or not? ... :)

Yeah when it first went on sale, I remember from when I bought my ///M that it was on sale then.

I still think it's a touch pricy but given the amount they've dropped it from I suspect they'd be reluctant to go much further. And it's a great spec, heated steering wheel is awesome.

Thing is, when I look around, there are a lot of 30i ' s out there for 30-33K (mostly the 'sport auto' which I really dont like), so If I can get a 35i for 32-33K I think its a winner :)

The white/red one is nice, and it is with the big drop in price, brings it more in line with the better deals available at the moment.

I also think that the Black Sapphire is better than the Jet Black - brings out the sexy/muscular lines a little more.

You're right to want to go see on in that colout, but don't forget you can go look at any spec. Z4 E89 to check that out :) Maybe there is a 23i closer to home...

Heated steering wheel with the hard top down in winter has to be a win (I wish I had that...mebbe it can be fitted later on when I am solvent again :D), and I liked the thought of the Adaptive M Sport suspension (in my very limited test drives I thought it improved the turn-in a little and tweaked some understeer away, though you lose some ground (speed bump!) clearance). I'm a DAB addict, so this car was also on my list!

You might be able to go another round with the dealer on dropping the price - if you want it (and when you're ready) you can ask the salesman to talk to his manager and ask the salesman for anything that might help him to swing it (such as giving him a credit card number to take a deposit after his chat). A couple of hundred more discount to make it happen straight away can be pursuasive...

I have seen the prices creep down slowly, and a Jag dealer told me that his cars are harder to sell before Christmas but easier afterwards. I'm not sur the VAT increase is going to help: dealers have already bought the cars they are selling and it isn't going to help their margins... I haven't really thought this through though.

Disclaimer: (I'm sure it isn't necessary, but...) don't let my ill-informed and very subjective views influence you! I'm still counting down to become an owner. It seems that I was just looking at the same cars at the same time as you. We might also have strayed a little from your original question...

Edit: I now see the other thread on Adaptive M Sport suspension, but I won't go and repost there: let those with more experience give you better answers :D

Choosing between these two is a pita lol... One has kit I'd want in the other, one has the classy interior the other sporty, but the sporty one hasnt got the sport suspension etc...

Nightmare...

I would like the beefy hifi in the white one, but also like the suspension and pure white interior in the black. God damn darn it... There's little to choose between them really, and while I think the white one is for showing off.. it could attract a little too much attention in manchester.. the insurance is high for a reason. The black would largely slip by unnoticed.. like a dark mirror with me cosseted in the full leather interior... that is, until I put my foot down and that sound comes out the back!

Ugh, choices...

Alpine and Coral was my first choice until i saw the Alpine/Design - I would still go for the Alpine and Red any day of the week, think it looks great. Some women don't like it as it could clash with their outfits.....but hey, thats if you care what they say......I did, hence the white interior!!

That white one has been on the market for a good few months now. In fact its been at Sandal in Wakefield since before I bought mine back in July. It's a very nice car though and the stereo is awesome! Maybe as they've had it a while you'll be bake to strike a better deal on it?

Incidentally mine is a deep sea blue 35i - this is an archive ad that's still online:

2 Registered Keepers***, Franchise Approved, Ivory White Exclusive Nappa leather, Bluetooth phone prep + telematics, BMW Assist, BMW Assist online portal, Comfort Access, Extended BMW online information, Extended storage, Exterior and interior mirrors - folding., Light alloy wheels Multi-spoke style 293, Navigation system - BMW Professional Mul, Park Distance Control (PDC). front and r, Pure White Design Package, Seat heating, Through-loading storage bag, Multi-function controls for s'wheel, ISOFIX Child Seat System, Headlight wash, Extended Lighting, Elec Fr Seats + Driver Memory, Alarm system (Thatcham 1), Floor mats. velour, Automatic Air Conditioning.

***one owner was BMW themselves at their HQ apparently hence reason I'm replying to the 'demo' thread.

When I bought it it was listed by BMW Watford for £32,989. It had been on the market a few weeks before I spotted it for £34k ish so the reduction brought it within my price range. I ended up paying £30,989!

Had it now since July and bar a noisy fuel tank issue it's been very good!

I specifically wanted the s35i in blue with extended ivory white leather and manual box, to get this combo with high enough miles and low enough price proved hard work. Most were much lover mileage and several £1000 more. To be honest I wanted the pro speaker option too but that was never on the cards with my budget.

Some pics of mine prior to collection here http://www.z4bmw.co.uk

God luck with whatever you end up with,

David (Leeds)
PS if you go to Wakefield again Ashley Baldry is the helpful young chap I dealt with.

So you turn up for a test drive, the engine is cold, you proceed carefully, you treat the engine with care, not exceeding 2500 rpm until its warmed through, fifteen minutes or so...... yeah right of course you do. You rag it from the off, its not your car after all so who cares and of course everyone else who's tested it has done exactly the same thing.

And what happens, less lubrication + tighter tolerance = high wear, this might not be a problem, you will probably have higher than average oil consumption, pads and disc's might need replacing earlier, the real problems will only manifest themselves in later life.

My first Z4 was an ex demo, 6,000 miles on the clock when I purchased it, it used a litre of oil every 6k miles, my new car, where I am the first owner, has done nearly 19,000 miles and hasn't needed a top up yet.

x2. My previous E60 was a 7-month-old ex demo with 7k miles on the clock, it used 1 litre of oil every 5-6k miles.

Lovely car that David... would be great to land one at the 31K mark...

I've got the black one down to 33K and the white to 32.5K ... they're not moving beyond that. I prefer the black one, and typical that that's the one they won't reduce more.

After two days and back and forth I'll leave them to stew on it and if they're still there next week (likely) I'll press them again.

I like the white and red - but the black one has a good spec and looks good too....
