E89 Android iDrive Screen Group Buy - NOW CLOSED

Hey Dave,

I've just bought a used Z4 and I'm interested in coming up to get one of these units installed by you if possible. I know absolutely nothing about cars, let alone modding them.

The thing is, the Z4 I just bought is manual and does not have the IDrive controls in the console (it has a professional media centre without a display) so, would you still be able to integrate the system you've mentioned with that vehicle I've purchased?

Regards,
Vezz

Yeah no problem at all.
I'll send you a PM shortly with details

Hi All,
Based on the info I saw in this group about the new android touch screen by a-carnavi, I went ahead and ordered mine. I just finished installing it but I'm getting some strange audio feedback. It sounds just like a heart beat. Thump, thump pause for a second or two the thump, thump again. It's constant with the car running and when off. It does not go away until the Z4 completely shuts down.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

Any idea how to remove the original Idrive screen ?

I'm sorry Gary I thought I'd replied to this last night.

Have you connected the 3.5mm AUX cable to the correct trailling 3.5mm socket? One is for the AUX output to the headunit and the other one is for the Mic input. Also have you plugged the other end it into the OEM AUX input socket in the centre console?

Yes, but I'll double check that this morning. It seems to be unrelated to the aux port. Based on some online research last night, it's feedback to the sub-woofer and usually related to bad wiring or grounding. I have the premium stereo in my Z4 so not sure if that has something to do with it. I'm off to check all the connections now. I'll let you know if I find the problem. Thanks for the Help. :D

Sorted the screen the plugs wrapped up on the cable connected to the screen , anyone had an issue with sound only coming from right speakers ?

Just make sure that all three white plugs are in properly in the back of the screen and that the Y loom is in properly as well for both the back of the headunit and the loom.

I figured out the "heart beat" noise coming from the speakers. It was coming from the professional stereo. I noticed a red light flashing on the back of the unit while checking connections. The red light was flashing in rhythm with the beats from the speakers. Turns out there's two fiber optic cables that need to be moved to the new head unit connector. As soon as I connected them back into the head unit, the noise went away. Adding some images.

I take it you didn't spot that comment on my installation video?
Glad you've found your problem though.

:D Actually I did remember you making the comment, I just overlooked that part when I connected the head unit to the new cable. BTW, your video was great and extremely helpful. Thanks!

I probably should have made more of an emphasis on it :D
Thank you, I tried to make it as helpful as I could.

Finally, someone helped to install mine. I wasn't with him when he's installing it.
The head unit and reverse fit nicely. The display is very good and sharp, easy to maneuver the menu using the added iDrive console. (Note mine doesn't have original iDrive)
However few things happened i.e.
Things that work
1. Yes my phone connected using bluetooth in the head unit.
2. These buttons on the iDrive work fine: Tel, Map, Back, Option, and Knob button
3. Music/Video can only be controlled via the screen menu (using Knob on iDrive & touch screen), then need to switch to aux mode on the radio console

Thinks that changes/no longer work:
1. the bluetooth phone connection facility on the radio console disappeared, presumably switched over to the head unit.
2. The phone button on the steering wheel as well as on the front panel of the radio console does not work if you want to initiate a call but can be used to receive a call
3. The ringtone is very loud and I don't know to turn it down, tried to adjust this via setting and audio setting both fail. If I turned down the call volume in the audio setting it does turn the ringer tone down but then I hardly hear the voice during the conversation.
4. These button on iDrive does not work: Radio and Media

The reverse camera that I bought via a-carnavi fit nicely and work fine, see photo attached.

Dave,
Reading your post it seems you can still use the original bluetooth (and bluetooth on the head unit?). I did switch using original bluetooth (in the Factory Setting) but still not showing it in the radio console menu. Do you mine to share your setting in Factory Setting, I may mis or thicks the wrong items.
Thanks
Eko

Eko,
Let's help you sort these issues out.....
1. To use the cars original Bluetooth then you need to set the setting to "Original Bluetooth"
2. & 3, should then work fine
4. Yeah in non-iDrive cars these are non-operative as they refer to iDrive operations.
I've attached screenshots of my set-up for the ARM settings screen (I have non-iDrive and manual)Screenshot_20190425-201810.png

I have available both OEM bluetooth and Android bluetooth available but as a rule I don't use the Android bluetooth as if I want streaming music I use either my cable connected Android Auto or or WiFi Hotspot to the screen and use the appropriate app (Apple Music, Spotify etc).

Buttons Not Working
OK this does seem to be a bit of a problem, I've found the following works just fine....
When you switch on, the buttons will work fine for the built-in Music Player and Bluetooth Music, but will not operate other apps.
To enable this...
Start up
Open music player
Press the two overlapping rectangles on the top right of the screen
And this opens the "Open Apps" screen
The bottom app will be the Music Player
Using your finger slide this to the right
Now press the Home button (top left of screen, looks like a house)
You can now open any music app and the steering wheel buttons will work fine

This may sound complicated but once you've done it it only takes a few seconds and then you're good to go for the rest of your drive.

As for incoming ringtone volume...
Go to "More Settings"..
Screenshot_20190425-201007.png
And then scroll down to "Sound"...
Screenshot_20190425-201020.png

...... next post.......

From there go down to "Notification Volume" and adjust this accordingly...

This should sort the ringtome out without affecting voice volume.

Hope that all helps.

Thanks Dave,
Tried to adjust the volume in that "Sound" option, it did work but after I restarted they back again to max. Not sure why that happened, only the "Notification" volume that does not go back to the full bar. It seems mine behaving differently.

I also tried as you described below, I assume the item 3 is to slide half way (before disappearing to the far right) then do item 4 while still holding it.
I did as above but nothing has changed. I will try to take a video what I've done next week, but not sure if it can be attached here in this forum.
However, I think I found the answer to these buttons on the steering wheel after I read the manual carefully. It's said the call/received button will only work for answering calls or hang up, the voice command button becomes "navigation" button but this does not work on mine, see the captured picture.

Today I ask about the disappearance of the bluetooth from the radio console to the supplier, hope will get the answer soon.

Cheers,
Eko
