Well I got a final offer of £700 from BMW UK as a good will gesture. I have accepted it.

Good result Keith

Good result indeed

We got £500....took the service pack for £350, and £150 off the deposit. Still a bit unsure about the lack of hill assist, but from what others say it doesn't seem too bad.

Can it be transferred to another name? You could sell the credit to someone for a discounted price. If someone has something in mind that they are wanting to purchase. For example you sell 750 credit to someone for 650 cash. Probably benefit you more if you don't want anything?

The only other option was 350 haha!

Now to think about what I should use it for. It's dealership credit so I don't know what I can't get with it. Not really fancying the sat nav, wouldn't mind the parking sensors.

There are all sorts of accessories and retrofits. I'd better not mention mud flaps though.

Some ideas: iPod/iPhone cable, wind deflector, tweeters, performance grill, a watch, sunglasses, bike, wallets, ice scraper, or maybe one of the silly and overpriced olympic pens. Too bad the BMW luggage isn't fitted. There is the bicycle transport system.

How about some car care items? BMW's rebranded shampoo is the best I've found yet. Or how about 83122148337 cockpit wet-wipes? 83120414568 looks interesting. It could be what they spray on the interior if you get seal and protect.

I've got this leather key holder. --> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110845773003?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_1413

We have the ice scraper BMW sold in the US. The current one for Europe doesn't look as good.

Would someone mind giving me a very quick summary of the issues in the thread?

I've got a Z4 on order and the daily commute will generally involve hills and traffic jams and this is likely to cause a problem.

Summary, but from my point of view.

Update after 10 days:

BMW corrected the UK website mid-March. As of 15 April the downloadable brochure still incorrectly listed the feature as standard.

My recommendatation to anyone with a 4 cylinder Z4 on order or considering one, is to get a demonstrator for a full day. Spend some time with it and make your own decision.

Can you get tweeters to upgrade the already top spec sound system?

If you have 677, Professional loudspeaker system, there won't be anything better from BMW. That system has four tweeters. There are two in the doors and two in the center channel speakers.

Improving 677 is going to be expensive. And, in my opinon, pointless.

What do you think my chances are....my dealer knows I was concerned about this before delivery, but I did say to him I would see how I get on, and if I have problems I will be back.

I can't honestly say I've got any issues with the lack of hill start....obviously I would rather have it, but its absence hasn't caused me any issues (yet!).

So can I go into the dealer and ask for them to complain to BMW UK in the hope of some dealer credit? Is it dishonest, considering I'm not having issues with its absence? It is still a matter of principle though, i.e. it was sold with the feature, but not delivered with the feature?

Or have I left it too long?

I can't answer for your conscience. I also don't know if you've waited too long. It can't hurt to ask.

We are both bothered not having it. There are a couple of spots on our daily commute where not having hill start is annoying. I was bothered enough to keep after our dealer, tell BMW UK, and write an article for the BMW club magazine.

If I had my choice between the £350 credit and working hill start, I'd have taken the hill start assist.

On the other hand the car is drivable without it. At least for us. I don't regret keeping the Z4 at all. Rejecting the car would have been a huge mistake. I'm glad we didn't.

Its pretty bad really that if your happy with your Zed but take the issue up you receive a nice comeback, where as if your happy and feel its not much of an issue you don't receive any compensation, I guess the moral is all owners need to have a good whinge at their dealer

Tim.

Thats it - I'm not actually fussed about not having hill start, but feel jealous of those who've had compensation...I mean, those that really miss the feature, no amount of money has given them the feature, but its nice to get something back, so I guess I'm just jumping on the bandwagon...but I fear the bandwagon may have left my town and when I jump, I'll miss!

I would go for it Kevin, I think it depends on your dealer and your relationship with them. I did ask the salesman whilst we were sitting in the Zed on pick up day about hill assist and he said it didn't have it, fairly and squarely, I really didn't have the heart to kick off and make an issue out of it as the dealer and salesman have been great and the fact it was such a good deal on the Zed I felt it was a bit of a cheek to make it an issue to be honest.

Fair doo's to those that have received compensation :) If you don't ask you don't get.

Tim.

Its a toughie, cos your right - with the excellent offer that we got...if it hadn't been for that offer,I'd never have been able to consider it, and in all honesty, if it never said hill start assist, or the assistant told me straight away it was a mistake, it wouldn't have made any difference to me!

Thinking about it like that, I don't think I'll do anything, as I would feel to dishonest considering the above and that I have no issue with it. Perhaps a fairer compensation would be a voucher for free front/rear bumper repair if accident caused due to no hill start assist :)

I didn't get hill assist and in Edinburgh it would have been a nice feature to have. Never worked out and I am happy with the level of compensation. I just wish they could have retrofitted it or gave me parking sensors!

Thats it though - for those of you who would really benefit from having it, its fair enough, but for me I'm ok. I'm not knocking you for going for compensation (hence me saying I am jealous!) but I don't feel I have a genuine case, whereas you, and several others, did.

Right, well… Finally reached a resolution.

I started out saying I would not accept cash, that the car was flawed and on very steep hills it will be very difficult to not roll back. I started by asking BMW to provide a replacement 35i manual built to my spec, that had the feature. They offered a sizable cash contribution. I wrote a letter explaining, and they then told me they would do the swap, but I had to pay the difference in retail price.

Punchy and unaffordable for me.

An auto 20i was an option (dealer was going to cover cost of auto for me), but the issue is the finance and offers etc. Because you would be ending one agreement (which is on the specific spec of your car), you would have to start a new one, and BMW was unwilling to offer the previous terms which as we all know, are much better than the current.

So I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Started going back through my list of potential cars and thought really hard about a Lotus Elise SC again which had previously been thrown out on the basis of practicality. Then the dealer offered a bit more on top of BMW’s offer.

If you accepted £350, then you may wish to look away now. It’s quite a big number................. We agreed on the dealer changing the oil and oil filter (something I always intended to after 1-2k), fitting the black high gloss grilles, fitting aluminium pedals and a cheque for £2,700.

Pretty happy with the outcome but there is a piece of me that still thinks the car is slightly flawed. My final thoughts for anyone else going through this are these:

• BMW customer services made out like the £1,845 they are contributing was based on the spec I had selected (saying they would pay for the Comfort pack and Service pack), so it may not be the same for everyone
• BMW customer services (who the dealer dealt with) was not that helpful and quite slow
• My dealer, despite some initial issues around scratches to the car and late delivery, turned out to be an absolute super star in the end. I am no doubt very annoying, but he was great and I genuinely do not think I could ask any more of him.
• There are two good bits of news from this – Firstly, I get to drive the car I genuinely love driving (apart from on hills). And secondly, this makes the sensational deal many of us were able to benefit from, even more amazing.

Now I just need it to stop raining. :driving:
