Question is do all autos come with paddle shift

All the e89 autos come with paddles. M-Sports get the better ones.

thats ok then not that bothered about a auto but it keeps the wife happy and when i drive I can use the paddles

I've owned both, got the auto as a replacement for the same reason. IMHO the auto is a far far better car, wouldn't have believed it before actually driving one since I was always a member of the manual is a better drivers car camp. Despite the on paper figures it feels quicker and is slightly more economical than the manual, go figure.... The Bmw 8 speed box is a cracker :driving:

As far as I know there's no difference in the auto box or paddles on an MSport or non MSport .. They're just the same, only that newer models have one up one down rather than both up or down...

I believe MSport is simply a body kit with sport seats and different finishings.

Could be. I haven't seen them. I'm going by what is on page 7 of the price list. As we all know the price list has errors.

Steering wheels
7XA M Sport leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles
Only with 2TB / 2TC.
- ○ - ○ - ○ ● £0

2XA Sport leather steering wheel with uni-directional gearshift paddles
Only with 2TB.
○ - ○ - - - - £0

2XA is on the 20i and 28i only.

I wouldn't trust the config thing either but I could be wrong, seems odd they'd differentiate. Perhaps they give paddles but take away hill assist

To be honest the next time I buy a car from the dealer I am going to ask them to go through the list of the thousands of features to make sure they are all there!

This Hill Assist issue has spoiled the car for me unfortunately and my dealership haven't been helpful at all. In fact I have been left fuming at their recent correspondence.

You need to call bmw uk if you are not happy I think then the dealer will be able to do a lot more for you it worked for me

But most stealers weren't aware of the lack of hill start, and we're still selling this feature as part of the car. I think you need to take it higher up the chain. What's the latest they've said?

I took it to the Managing Director of the company and even got a letter back from him. Let's just say the letter wasn't very nice and some of the comments made offended me to the extent I am actually thinking my next car might end up being a Merc!

Essentially the letter said they felt I had no case, they would not contact BMW as regards to my complaint and that Hill Assist wasn't part of the deal on the car. To be fair neither was he brakes, steering wheel, ABS, Air conditioning.. You catch my drift. I had also put them in touch with Ryan off here and he bought a Z4 from them, they told me they would give me a little something to say thank you. The letter then told me that I hadn't followed certain criteria about it and they wouldn't be giving me anything.

How has it left me feeling?

Well, I chose the wrong dealer, they haven't helped me like other dealers have helped Carol, etc. It's made me feeling like despite loving the car that I don't want it anymore because essentially its helping the dealer line their pockets. To be honest if I could go back I probably wouldn't have bought the Z4 now, certainly not from my dealer. To be honest, I think at the earliest opportunity I will probably give the car back and move to another Marquee because I feel this has tainted the BMW experience for me. It's a brand I love but unfortunately ruined for me.

I hate to say it... But I think this will be my last BMW and I will probably go for a Merc or Porsche next. Potentially VW.

I could never change brand simply because of a mistake in a brochure and the car was lacking something I really wanted. Probably as I see the other plus points in the car and my expectations are easily satisfied.

Theres not alot out there at the moment thats comparable to the Z4, Mercs unfortunately are not drivers cars as nice as they appear. Porsche I would feel a D*ck driving around in and too expensive ownership propersition. Have tried Peugeot cabriolets and were a complete disaster in quality and reliability and dealer back up. I would go for an MX5 if it was larger.

I still think what BMW offered at the time on the Z4s was a cracking deal :)

I think for me Tim, it's not the car, the performance or the deal. It's how I have been made to feel by the dealer and to be honest it's actually just taken me about 2 days to actually get over just some of the things said within the letter that's really unsettled me.

Now obviously I understand that I can go to another brand and get the same problems however on this occasion I feel badly let down and for me to say that this will be my last BMW is a bold statement because anyone who knows me knows how much I love the BMW Brand and Values. I think the cars they produce along with the engines are fantastic. As I say though, the dealership has tainted my perception of the brand.

Its a shame the dealer has put a downer on things, my experience of different dealer brands is their much of a muchness, you would think going for a premium brand gives a premium dealership service but unfortunately thats not necessarily the case. A pain as it might be I would seriously try another BMW dealer in future. Reason I went back to BMW after trying other brands was the dealer, they've always been good on the aftersales side which is why I will be sticking with them. Hope I don't eat humble pie as will be booking the Zed in for the engine whine so will see how it goes :|

Well the dealer is wrong...the hill start was advertised as a standard feature on the car, so it was part of what you ordered. The fact that most dealers didn't realise it's absence means its reasonable for the customer to expect it, and the fact that other dealers and BMW have compensated customers means that BMW themselves admit it was a mistake. Obviously they don't want to compensate everyone, but they have done for some.

Sounds like the letter was harsh and uncalled for.

Can you take it higher, ie direct to BMW, if only to complain about that dealer?

I called BMW to vent my anger on Friday. I said if I had sent this letter or spoken to a client like this in my job I would have been sacked. All the dealer needed to do was simply go to BMW. Ask the questions and come back with the answer.

I have quoted some of the paragraphs and phrases used within the letter as I feel the remarks were unprofessional, rude and patronising.

And what response did you get?

On the call I spoke to one of the advisors called Anna, she was a very nice lady. Very understanding and empathetic to my situation I was explaining away to her, she said that managers make the call on compensation packages, etc. She said that the manager would give me a call back on Monday to chat to me about my situation as regards to compensation, the deal and how my dealer had handled my case as well.

The way my dealership have handled it is they have got the sale and that's it. Now I need to go and get things fixed like rattles, etc. I am not looking forward to going to the dealership to say the least!

It's totally unacceptable. You are within your rights under uk consumer law to return the car. Maybe you should mention that to them. We're still waiting for a return call since last Wednesday! Ringing them again tomorrow. If they don't agree to fit oem or oem looking sensors then I'm going to put a complaint in to BMW.
(craning my neck here talking to you :D )

Keith - have you spoken to the salesperson about it? Are they the same attitude? Do you have another local dealer you can use?

Carol : What is the criteria for returning the car? I'm holding that option for mine incase they dont fix my leak.

I guess that Keith could use that as a bargaining tool, as he's already mentioned going to another car. I guess if they wont fix it and give decent compensation, then mentioning you'd like to return the car might force their hand?

My dealership are friendly, but then I've never really had to complain...I guess thats when you see their true colours, and to be honest, I'm getting worried that I might be nearing that point.

PS: Keith....if you do ditch BMW, don't expect me to follow you like I did to the Z4...

The Sales of Goods Act -- this act gives you a range of statutory rights when you buy something. So, for example, under this act any products that you might buy must be fit for purpose, of the right quality and as they were described to you before you made a purchase.

The last part says it all really.

If it should come to the point where you actually do want to return the car then I would ring them and tell them you intend to return it for xxxxx reason and ask them to prepare necessary paperwork and also you must put it in writing and either hand it to them personally or send it by recorded/signed for delivery. Then you'd speak to them to arrange a convenient date to return the car.
