E86 Rear Lamp Electrical Connector Help

Hey All,

Have been meaning to replace my drivers side rear light since the LED strip has gone in it, but encountered a problem in that I cannot for the life of me disconnect the electrical connector for the lamp!

The other side comes out fine so I think it is likely corroded in place (which would likely contribute to the failure I have anyways), so I know its not entirely me being an idiot. Only issue is this means I will have to cut the wires to get the lamp out and replace, which means I will need a new harness connector to go with my new lamp.

Does anyone know where I could pick up one of these harness connectors for the e86 lamps? I have been trying to find the right keywords to search for one, but so far no luck.

Thanks,

James

Unless you can buy the correct connector with precrimped tails, you will need the pins, crimp tool and connector housing.
It may be more economical to snip on off a loom at the breakers yard and then splice that onto your loom.

I don't know which style of connector you are dealing with, but I would be injecting penetrating oil past the silicon bungs in order to recover it before replacing it.

Thanks for the insight!

I can buy a connector with the precrimped tails from Germany via rebrain from looking around, just going to have to wait for it to arrive as once I snip the cables I won't have any lamp to drive with.

Annoyingly most of the second hand lamps available don't seem to have to plug and wires included, or else a splice into those would be my go to.

I’m sure I’ve still got the wiring/connector on a car I’m breaking. If I have I can chuck it in the post if needed. Not expecting anything for it.

I've managed to find a lamp from a breakers which has the plug and a bit of harness still on it, so I should be alright thanks.

Irritating that the whole lamp and plug unit can need replacing for an LED failure that can't be replaced.
