E86 Rear Lamp Out

Hey all,

Probably a silly question, but for the rear lamps (not the high mounted one) on the coupe, the "bar" across the top is LED? Assume if that has gone the whole unit will need replacing? All the bulbs I can get to work fine, but that light has stopped coming on.

Thanks,

Yes you need to buy a whole new unit. i had the same and took ages to find a 2nd hand one on ebay.

:o
Seriously, a whole new unit??

There's me pondering on replacing the back bumper and whether I should go down the facelift route.
Sack that.

Happened to someone else recently. https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=119727
The light unit has LED's so they shouldn't fail... interesting that both failures occurred on the O/S unit.

Damn, was hoping that wouldn't be the case but I felt it might be.

I have been having a look and there's not much choice unless I buy a set of two then resell the passenger side one.

I'm sure you can make your money back. The lights aren't that common and sell for £100 to 150 each.

Can also sell the "broken" one. I've always wanted to hack one apart to look at it properly. Have you seen what IAmOrion does with lights? Fancy a similar approach... one of those tasks for a rainy day!

I've found a few on breakers that I'm asking around first as that will probably be the cheapest option.

But yeah once I have a replacement I'll probably have a dig around and see if I can figure out why it has stopped working!

Any sign of water ingress? The foam gaskets have been known to fail in the past.

Left gasket: 63217167589

Right gasket: 63217167590

One of mine has water in (pretty sure its a gasket) and bulbs work fine... so doubt it will cause issues later on if left a "swimming pool" but I'm checking regularly and not driving so regularly so build-up-water/risk is minimal.

Cost me £80 off eBay :(
