e85 Hood Scoop Idea

My advice? Go for it.

its your pride and joy and should reflect your personality and taste - it doesn't matter what opinions you ask you will always get a raft of negative responses from people that have no imagination or are terrified of veering away from the standard. I mean the absolute classic for me is people who snipe at things like sticking a black hardtop on to a coloured car, or a titanium silver one on to a sterling grey like I used to have. I got lots of neg comments when I posted photos yet people used to come up to me in the street frequently and compliment me on the colour scheme (which I always intended to improve with a racing stripe but never got round to it). And now look at what Citroen and MIni do with the paint jobs on their cars, especially the DS3!

JFDI as they say - its only a frickin bonnet for gods sake - go and get one from a scrapper and keep the existing one 'as is' so you can revert if it doesn't work out.

If people like Chip Foose and Boyd Coddington had gone on to car forums and asked "what do you think guys?" they'd have ended up churning out pasty, bland cars, probably all painted the same colour grey.

Remember - THE MAN WHO NEVER DID ANYTHING WRONG, PROBABLY NEVER DID ANYTHING.

Oh and as my wife always say, its when they're NOT talking about you that you need to start worrying LOL

Good point, well presented

Like the idea of some form of embellishment on the hood (bonnet!). Anyone feel that the expanse of plain metal lacks something when viewing the front of the Z4? A scoop or power bulge would break this up and make the car look more aggressive - particularly straight on. Love the looks of my Z4 from all other angles however - just straight on seems to lack something and the bonnet is part of the issue I think so some form of work might improve this? The Muscle car version is a right laugh - always loved Hot Rods!

If I can come up with a used but good shape hood, I'm certainly tempted to give it a shot. I'll have to wait till I'm ready to swap engines so I ensure that the filter hole cut is in the correct location.

Race stripes? I must admit I have been thinking of that too... Has anyone done it?

Nothing wrong with stripes, so long as the colour and theme can carry it.
If I stuck aa white 6" stripe down the centre of the bonnet of a Sferling grey it would look awkward to say the least.

Mine would have been titanium silver to match the hardtop and would have gone down the centreline of the bonnet and over the boot down to the rear valance, tapered outwards at either extreme...possibly co-ordinated with a sterling grey stripe over the hardtop.....sounds awful I expect but I liked the idea. The two colours are very complimentary  I think white only works on a few solid colours and even then it looks a bit Starsky and Hutch LOL..

It's your car, if you like it - do it.

I wouldn't want a scoop on mine

I never liked racing stripes on the Z4... they always looked "off" to me... (goes to show differences in opinion  )

+1 - agree, the only one I have ever seen that I liked was a ruby black coupe with red stripes, on here. Looked awesome, I think the stripes forgave the roof quite a lot :D
