Do you use your Zed through the winter?

I know this has been done before but with the amazingly low mileage I keep seeing posted by Zed owners, I just wondered how many of us keep our Zeds running through the winter? I'm just about to fit my winter tyres (simply because I want to use up the remaining tread on them) and I'm interested if there is a big chasm between those that do and those that don't. . . .

Here's a couple of photos to illustrate that I do keep my Zed on the road (for leisure use 12K a year, please note the roof is down ) . . . .comments :lol:

In fairness it's insured and taxed all year so I have used it on those cold frosty sunshiny mornings but never if the weathers bad

I do love your pics though, I'm a little OCD with cleaning, can't stand finger prints on the door handles :lol: I probably need to see a specialist :lol:

In fairness it's insured and taxed all year so I have used it on those cold frosty sunshiny mornings but never if the weathers bad

I'm the same taxed & insured all the time but I commute to work on the train and we have the X3 as a general runabout so #320 lives in the garage under a soft cover and only comes out to play for fun runs on nice days - I've averaged about 1,500 miles a year for the last 3 years although that does include over 1,600 miles for the Skye trip so if I exclude that it's under 1k p/a

At this rate the car will be 20 years old before it gets to 50k miles

When I had the E89 it was off the road from November to the following March simply as wouldn't use it due to the summer runflats, I'm doing the same with the M135i. My Z3 is stored from March to November so will be coming out soon as its fitted with all season tyres and has heated seats lol,



Don't really like storing a car I'm paying monthies on but either that or get some winter wheels. I never like the gamble using summer tyres on a rear wheel drive car.

It's on about 43K now, I've done around 10K in 5 years or so, I still love it to bits

The only reason I bought a Zed is because I have a daily mk4 golf diesel

I wouldn't have it if I had to use it every day

Fortunately the winters havnt been really bad with hardly any snow.

yes, its a car. never had any issues with not having winters on but there hasn't been a really bad winter yet.
never had any issues with rwd and summer tyres, used to drive the westy in winter loads @ 257bhp per ton un aided through rwd on an axle weight of 300Kg you just learnt to read the road and keep it safe. bigger problem with other people.

I bought my winter's last year and didn't need them. I came to the same conclusion as yourself and will be wearing summers all year after I've worn the winters out - should be easy as they spin up with the least provocation (I suppose I might have a different view if I was using the Zed for commuting)

Interesting that some do use their Zeds as dailys - how often do you use it then Jamie and do you use it though the winter?

Yes always used whatever toy during winter BUT, it has to be dry and salt free, otherwise no, I refuse to drive it in salt. Many's the time I've gone out for a night run and gone through the village only to find the gritters have been out on the main road so have turned round and gone home again. A shame as a run on a crisp winters night is great. It's a silly problem, unless you're going to keep a car for life then a few winters won't kill it, just my OCD to keeping it mint won't allow it, I want to get over it as I'm missing out on a lot of fun, you're a long time dead and does it really matter if a car gets filthy?

Yes we have been lucky with the weather though we had to cancel two runs at the beginning of this year due to ice on the roads (probably more to do with the chosen high route :roll: ). The cold doesn't put you off then . . .
