Do you use your Zed through the winter?

Yep - we've put some miles in and you've introduced me to some great new roads and routes Mike

- you on for this Monday? :driving:

I did have a run over then back over Hartside the other week and for the first time in my life I had a run back with not a soul in front of me - there was a motorbike behind me but didn't seem to keep up very well - no it wasn't a Honda 50 :D

That's the way to enjoy that road ronk - fabulous if you get a clear run through.

It's the first time in my life that I've ever had a clear run ! Top down of course.

The flying jackets coming out of hibernation soon.!

SORN every year from 30th Sept - April :(

What do you use in its place ?

Zed is only for summer use, I bought it in sept 2012 and I have put 3,500 miles on so far and spent 1000s on it .

I use X5 (E53) or Audi A8 both 2006

Interesting all the different takes on this. Personally i've owned a number of different rear wheel drive/sports cars over 20 years of driving and generally used them all through winter as i do like to use the cars i own as much as possible. Only exception was the winter of 09/10 when my 987 sat on the drive covered in snow for a good month or so as i couldn't even drive off my drive due to the road conditions on residential streets. Main roads were fine, just couldn't get to them! I suppose the decision to use a car all year does depend on your circumstances, not just financial but other factors such as commuting and location. The pro and cons of using a rear wheel drive sports car on a short daily commute in a big city such as London are completely different from those if you suddenly found yourself doing 100 miles a day in the worst of winter in the highlands of scotland. Personally a second car for winter/commuting has never made any sense due to a reasonably short commute and city/motorway roads. buying and the running costs of a second car were far out weighed by any fuel savings etc and id rather spend the money on modding of my next car.

You've covered a lot of points MACK. It's interesting to hear from forumites that put their Zeds away over the winter or do very low mileage per year.

Mine is used all year round – well it will be, I bought it in June this year.
In an ideal world I would have the use of a garage, but I do use a half cover over the winter months to help protect the soft top. It’s a second car so I won’t have to drive it in snow and ice or heavy rain, basically we keep an eye on the weather forecast and make the most of those crisp clear winter days. As for corrosion and rust there’s no signs at the moment, and I know for a fact the previous owner had it garaged and SORN’ed 6 months of the year, putting on an average of only 2k miles per year over his 5 years of ownership. Whilst I would love to keep the mileage low, I like driving it too much – it was on 35k in June and has just ticked over 40k. We are looking forward to many bright crisp roof down days over the winter months - provided you wear the right padded jackets and hats its great fun isn’t it.

Sounds very similar to our usage Marlon. We do 12000 miles each year mainly leisure use; bought at 53000 and now on 74000. We'll have had our 3 litre since Jan 2014. The previous 2 litre got used just the same so no chance of keeping our mileage down - enjoy it too much.

Mine is an all-year-round car as most people know.

We don't get a lot of snow in Liverpool, and my commute is 95% clear motorway (although did have a scare once when the tag lane on the M6 Toll was snow-covered as I approached it).

In fact my first 'Welsh Hoon' in this car was in the freezing weather just after New Year 2009 (on 19" PS2s), about a month after I picked the car up.

Even went on a 400 mile trip in the snow to get my service book stamped for a warranty claim. This is how it was when I left my overnight stop near the office...

...and this was how the first garage looked when I arrived. Luckily I got to all of them just before they decided to close due to lack of staff/customers.

Still got my snow-socks in their original packaging, and have just come back from a Ring trip where the overnight temps dipped below zero. Opening time temps were 1-3c and the car/tyres performed very well on Pilot SuperSports.

If the weather does get bad enough for me not to drive, then it usually means I should just work from home, as most of my colleagues would be doing the same anyway :P

If the weather gets bad I will use this bad boy more often, the only problem its a ba$tard park as it overhangs car park spaces

Hard core mmm-five - that's all weather and all year use - respect :o

Here's one to add to the snow collection
