Do you let anyone drive your car?

My 90 year old dad keeps asking me to let him dive my 35i! i keep making any excuse i can to prevent this from happening. He uses all ploys of trying to make me feel bad by saying that he taught me to drive and that i drove all of his cars......

I dont let him drive me anywhere because he scares the bejesus out of me.

he say no matter the power of the car, its the driver that determines how fast it goes..... my arse!

Sorry dad, love your son.

Picked up my 1 year old e89 just before christmas from dealer and had 7 day complimentary insurance apart from the wife and me they asked did I want anyone else on the policy, I said I expect my 19 yr old son would love to have a go they said no problem!!
When I got home and told him he was straight off in it, I hardly saw it for the first week i think he done around 500 miles and of course brought it back with no fuel!!! :driving:

wife and daughter drive mine - they love posing around on sunny days - but they do park in the middle of supermarket carparks and now i have a huge ding in the passenger door ........

Both my mum and dad are insured on mine, only to make it cheaper, my mum will NEVER be driving it for fear of the OP's story happening, my dad has driven it a few times both with and without me in the car and i have no fear it will come to any harm whatsoever

It will be interesting what happens if you are ever involved in a accident and parents are on it but you can't prove they are all regular users of the car. That wheeze is really frowned upon by insurers.

Well i'm down as the main driver and the owner of the vehicle, she needs to be insured on it in the event her car is out of action to get to work, what i meant was i would never just toss the keys to her and say "here take mine"

I tried to add the in-laws to our policy but swiftcover declined to add any drivers that had no financial interest in the car. Otherwise they would have the use of it when we go on holiday and they use our house as a free hol home in the peak district.

I have no problem with my wife driving the Zed - she always prefers me to drive but she is a good driver and uses it for work - she has the same attitude to parking as I do and loves the car.

Would be careful about who drove the car though - with the positive steering and it's tendency to tramline it might put some people off. I think it's a car it takes time to get used to and would hate anyone to go away with the wrong impression.... :o Only drivers need apply! :driving:

My wife drives my zed very occasionally. I get very nervous, I must say. So does she.

I have no probs driving her TT.

Only the dealer or dealer's rep when the car has to go in for servicing or "shaken," which is the equivalent of your MOT. They're the people who fix the thing anyway. No one else. No way.

I'm happy for anyone to drive mine that I trust, my wife knows she has to be careful though, it's only kerbing the wheels that I'm worried about not it being driven per say

You should let him have a go, just think of the smile on his face and how happy he would be

As for me, I lent my Phoenix Yellow zed to my step mum for 6 weeks whilst on a long holiday, she was very sad to give it back

My fiancee is insured on my Z4,
in the past we have often swapped cars (she owns a Mini Cooper), for example if i need to use her's if im going fishing or need to use the boot for something.
If we are going somewhere together i always drive, but im happy to use both cars and vice versa (I like taking the Mini if iv just spent ages washing the Z4 lol)

My wife is insured to drive, but I keep 'forgetting' to go through the 'intricacies' of the SMG gearbox with her. Anyway, its my weekend car - she has her own and if necessary, my daily driver if she needs it.

mrs gannet drove my car all of about 3 times in the 5 or so years I had it...

no problem with me, however she just didn't enjoy as much as I did. She mainly drove it to help out with long distances when on holiday etc... She did manage to sail under a motorway bridge camera car, ahem well in excess of the limit...... thankfully the camera must have been switched off :o

I let anyone drive mine, it's only a piece of metal at the end of the day. At a recent car show I went to, about 6 or 7 Clio forum buddies took it out.

A group of us in the village all have sportscars, when we go to the route napoleon or the alps we often double-up in order to share the fuel, ferry & toll costs.
No problem being a passenger in my own car on the motorway etc - but when we get to the twisties, I rather passenger in someone else's car when its my turn not to drive as I get very tense.
Other than that no-one drives my car.

Don't let him.

I let my dad drive one of my performance cars once, and the guy I had looked up to all my life turned into a complete numpty before my astonished eyes.
I'd not been a passenger of his for probably 25 years & all his driving skills had left him in that time.
The conflict of emotions was incredible.
