DO NOT FLASH DINAN

I ordered the flash tune for my 2.5i Z4. They sold it to me before they had actually finished the tune, and I was fine with that. They ended up sending it out a month later, and I installed it with zero issues. I drove my Z for one day on their software and it caused a cyl 2 misfire, after replacing all 6 sparks and packs and the code still being there I decided it was time to take it to BMW. They stated my DME has been fried, and it’s a $2100+ for a new one plus labor. I emailed Dinan with proof of the diagnosis In order to have them compensate me, but instead they just sent me a copy of their terms and conditions, which states “if a flash is unsuccessful, they are not responsible for any damage caused”. My flash was perfectly fine, I confirmed my VIN with them several times and have it all on email for record. They assured me it was a safe tune. Stay away from this shiesty company.

If you are looking for more power just buy the bigger engine car in the first place is usually the best route to go down.

I’m aware they make a 3.0, but my car is very special to me as it has zero rust and is signed by the one and only Kelly Clarkson. I’m the second owner ever, and it’s just coming up on 90k. I’m not trying to buy a new car. This is a tired response to all 2.5 owners IMO. We know they make bigger engines.

This can be fixed for a couple hundred dollars. Purchase an eBay ECU with the same hardware number as your current ECU and have your current ECU cloned.

I think it’s a coincidence that your ECU failed (if it really did) simultaneously with the flash. These ECUs don’t typically fail, and the parameter section where the tune is loaded has no ability to influence a hardware failure internal to the DME. I think you have another issue present.

If you get stuck, I can clone your current ECU. It wouldn’t be free, but it will be a lot less than what BMW quoted.

This is mostly a UK forum and I think you're the first person I've personally seen here bother to flash a map. It's generally accepted that it's not very worthwhile doing anything to these engines for more power, bar maybe a super charger. Even then the value just isn't there. Should just hit the sport button and enjoy :driving:

Good luck getting anything from the company. Remaps are playing with fire and the terms you agreed to stated that you might get burned. Hopefully your post helps others avoid them.

If you need some advice on troubleshooting the DME, I'd look inside and see if it's just a blown MOSFET. Replace the MOSFET and off you go. Or buy another unit from the list on realoem and have it virginised/cloned+flashed back to stock.

It’s already in the shop and I had them order the DME. Should’ve never played with fire 🤕 just trying to let others know should they decide to purchase it. I’ll pay my dues to the beemer gods for my mistakes 🙏

If the DME is "fried" surely the symptoms will be much worse than a misfire on one cylinder? :tumbleweed:

Pokeybritches knows what he is talking about . I have read many of his posts on forums . Shame you have already gone with the garage as it could have been sorted cheaper . Remaps are fine normally if done by the right person and do add to performance/drivability but not always with great HP gains . I fully understand why you went for the flash . Hope you get it sorted but don`t let it put you off a remap. I hope Pokeybritches doesn`t mind me saying this as I don`t know him personally but send him a PM . I`m sure he can sort you out with a decent remap at a cost of course

Late to the party Kelly Clarkson? related to Jeremy no doubt

I’ll snap a pic when she’s out of the dealer in a few days- If you look up Kelly clarkson Z4 it’s the kiss raffle giveaway car in that stock image. I’m the second owner next to the winner :)

Fair play, not sure many of us can say we've had Kelly Clarkson in our car!

Thank you for the kind words! Yes, any member can feel free to PM me. These ECUs are almost impossible to permanently brick, unlike some of the E9x M3 ECUs that followed. I have never encountered a Z4/Z4M ECU I couldn’t flash back to factory settings.
