Z4 3.0i to 3.0si with bimmerlabs flash!!

Hi Ivanchen, many thanks for your support, I think I got it and I will try later today, in any case I am happy to contribute to your E85 project.

Factory coding is needed after flash, otherwise the EML could be on(won't effect driving). Just use ncsexpert, select factory coding profile and code the 6MBOT.

Also there will be lots of error code among the modules because the CAR network is disconnected during the flash process. Use inpa to clear them.

Cleaning the codes is OK for me to do, just never used the NCSEXPERT. If I get problems with this I will send you another message. Many thanks for the support so far. Tell me more about your E85 project! I am interested. Cheers

Hey Ivanchen, it worked! Thank you so much. Do you have more tips on how to increase torque in low rpm or power?
I will probably do the same on the weekend. Did you need to do the NCSexpert coding?

After the process, I didn't need to do anything, no error messages anywhere! Incredible. Regarding the gearbox ECU flash, I didn't even know that there is a ECU for a manual gearbox. What would this do to the gearbox? I was also wondering that some 2.5si have the sports button, which makes the car respond a bit faster... do we have the option to keep the sports mode on all the time as we don't have a button?

Oh...it's for automatic transmission. Envy you have a manual trans! In my country it's difficult to pass annual car examination if you swap from auto to manual as it is now allowed by law.

Fascinating thread - you would think that 40hp more would feel incredible - any comments ? Or is it all up at the top end ?

Received wisdom is that half comes from the hardware update and half from the software. Installing the manifold certainly made some difference, I’ll let you know when I’ve tested the tune.

Installed the tune today (thanks Ivanchen), took about an hour on my cranky laptop, but seemed to go OK (what is that weird pumping noise from the back of the car?). EML was on but disappeared on starting the car.

I can’t drive it yet as too much of the interior is disassembled, but hopefully will do tomorrow.

Is it disassembled from the update or something else ? That makes it sound like a big project t
No, I was doing a strip out of the audio loom at the same time. For the 2.5i to 2.5Si update you just have to replace the manifold and run the update. Easy job compared to replacing an audio loom.

Hi guys just wondering did you use old DISA that came with the manifold or bought new ones?

The disa I bought from junkyard with manifold was filled with oil, they did not open close like it should and I have to disassemble and clean them like the video I recorded.

They worked fine afterward. I sold them then bought aftermarket cheap new DISAs.

I used the original DISA1 that was on my car (yes, the UK 2.5i has it) and used the DISA2 which came with the new manifold. I took both of them out and gave them an inspection and thorough clean. I also ran the INPA diagnostic test after installation to make sure they were both working.

i cant think about the stereo side - i think connecting the door speakers from the mirror tweeters and maybe adding base units ….. can you point me to a step by step for the untechnical about how to do the software for the manifold please ?

It’s pretty much as Ivanchen described, but you can ignore some of it. I am assuming that you have just installed the 3-stage 2.5Si manifold and that you have INPA (with WinFKP) on a laptop which communicates with your Z4. If not, you will need to get this, or find someone who has it.

CAUTION: I accept no responsibility for anything that goes wrong. You are making intrusive changes to your DME. I can only tell you that this worked for me.

Create two directories on your laptop:
C:\BMW\RSA and C:\BMW\Flash

Click on this link and copy the (4) files to your C:\BMW\RSA directory
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1InJqWT6uS2lM7ALTKXCNRMDzYVMRV-v-/view?usp=drive_link

In the C:\BMW\RSA directory, right click on the MSV70.bat file and select “edit”
Find this line and insert the underlined text “copy C:\BMW\RSA\MSV70.ctl C:\EC-APPS\NFS\BIN\MSV70.ctl”
Find this line and insert the underlined text “copy C:\BMW\RSA\MSV70_RSADelete_0049PP0L921S.0pa C:\EC-APPS\NFS\DATA\DEVELOP\MSV70_RSADelete_0049PP0L921S.0pa”
Save and close the file
Note: the underlined text (which, for the avoidance of doubt, doesn’t need to be underlined when you type it in) must match the directory pathway which you have created.

Click on this link and copy the (4) files to your c:\BMW\Flash directory
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J1Jn0WrdTUbQS4KNRvUPOOAavRjboD0M/view

In the c:\BMW\Flash directory, right click on the MSV70.bat file and select “edit”
Find this line and insert the underlined text “copy C:\BMW\Flash\MSV70.ctl C:\EC-APPS\NFS\BIN\MSV70.ctl”
Find this line and insert the underlined text “copy C:\BMW\Flash\MSV70_S7581341_mod_to_00_18373_LX88237.0da C:\EC-APPS\NFS\DATA\DEVELOP\MSV70_S7581341_mod_to_00_18373_LX88237.0da”
Save and close the file

Hook up your batter charger
Ignition on (lights on the dash), but engine off
Plug your laptop into the OBD port
Test your comms by opening INPA and making sure it is communicating with the car
Exit INPA, but leave the diagnostic suite open (none of the Apps should be running)

Navigate to your c:\BMW\RSA directory and click on the MSV70.bat file to start RSA delete

WinFKP should automatically start and display a progress bar. Car will make a weird noise from the back end for the duration of this process, which takes about 30-60 minutes. Do not unplug anything or interrupt the power during this time.

When RSA delete has finished, navigate to your c:\BMW\Flash directory and click on the MSV70.bat file to start the flash tune

Again, WinFKP displays a progress bar, but this update only takes a minute or two. When it’s finished, the weird noise stops.

Now you can close the BMW diagnostic suite and unplug your laptop. Turn off the ignition, then start up as normal. Idle (or blipping the throttle from idle) may be a bit rough as the car will have to re-learn its adaptations, but this quickly sorts itself out.
