Hello lovely people!
I'm Adrian, new here. 1 month ago i bought a z4 e89 2.3i sdrive 2010 run like a charm til now... without any signs started making wierd engine noise , diesel like and some knocking. I just want to know your valued opinions to see if i can drive the car to a garage or if someone had similar problems. 2 videos attached , one from cold start and second after 10-15 min runing. I thank you in advance for your help.

Yikes , that does sound rough :cry does it drive as it did when you bought or now feel lumpy under mild throttle & struggle for power if floored ?

Its a bit underpowered, but i did not drive it after it started making this noise, so just from where i was and home ... Can't realy tell as i drove slow and easy. Aslo today check engine light came up, but the system infromation says everything is ok... Useless. When it first happened i did not have any lights/warnings. Oil level is good...

Some zeds were called back for vanos bolt replacement, has yours been done. Take key into dealer and find out.

The dealer did not offer warranty ... But I will give him a call. He is not obligated in some way or form, isnt him?

But anyway, my.post was just so i know if its safe to drive to a garage around 7-8 miles. Anyone heard about engine completly destroyed from knocking/ratteling/ noise?

Personally i wouldn't drive it, take the key to a BMW dealership and ask if all call backs are up to date.
Take a taxi, bus or ask a friend to take you. Show them your videos.

Good luck.

I probably wouldn't risk it. As an aside, a few years ago, me and a mate had built a kit car and we'd refurbed the engine bearings. Obviously badly, because after a while it started making a light tapping noise, so he was on his way over to mine to have it looked at when it punched one of the pistons out of the side of the block right through the starter motor wire. He had to kick the wire off the battery before it properly caught fire, all in the middle of a crossroads :/

Your noise may be nothing, or it may be that it's already damaged to the point of being terminal, it's hard to say- but running it will only increase the chance of making the problem worse IMO

I went to the garage, they say that the vanos bolts broke and some of them got into the engine somewere. Today they will give me a quote on the price to fix it.

Ours had the recall for the vanos bolts about 3 years ago.

If you only purchased a month ago the dealer should repair at his expense or refund you

Good question are car dealers responsible for ensuring all call backs have been done, including a back street garage?

My colleagues 2011 was called back but my 2009 wasn't listed.
