2Lstarting to sound like a diesel?

So on start up fine, reverse out of the drive then into forward gear. That’s when it starts! Are there any heat shields on the exhaust as it seems to rattle. It’s not rev related as the drone doesn’t change when I give it some beans. Simply it sounds like a Hackney cab now rather than a petrol. One final thing, maybe it’s just me but the noise seems to go away when the engine is warm or more like I’ve got used to the sound. Other than that car runs/ drives like a dream.

Not on a 2.0i it won’t be.

Maybe a cracked & blowing exhaust manifold, the 2litres seem susceptible to it

New ones are a shocking price, some people have had success with welded repairs.
If you start it from cold with the bonnet up you should be able to tell if the manifold is cracked & blowing I’d have thought?
