Hi All! I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to have a mini directory of services for those people happy to help out others waive extortionate dealer fees for fault diagnosis. Id personally be happy to do this and all id ask is a modest donation to be made to the forum, say £10+.

1. EdButler (INPA, NCS EXPERT, BMW Scanner) - Sheffield & Meets

What BMW Scanner can do:
Clear all error codes (unsure about Airbags though),
Reprogram LCM (Disable auto levellers, enable full circle brake lights, disable cold check to allow LED bulbs, Daytime running lights etc.)
Reprogram remote roof, one touch, auto lock, alarm chirps, triple indicator signal etc.
Allow TV in motion

Mods please feel free to move/remove this if necessary :)

I think this is a very good idea. I have just started looking at all the programming and drags myself. If I can get it sorted would be happy to do the same for the south east

Good idea so long as all the programmes and software/kit is original, licenced, etc.

I echo that... great idea though, and all donations gratefully received, as ever.

Wonder if anyone's kit will clear airbag lights, that's the one I need :)

I managed to turn mine off with INPA last night... software is a bit flaky with my cable but I'm sure I can figure out how to get it stable.

Add me to the list for INPA (Harrogate)

I'll sticky this thread too

great idea and the reason this forum has become invaluable - top commumity spirit! as for contributing - if i could, i would but i can't

I've got DIS (diagnosis) and SSS (programming & coding) up and running using VMWare and a eBay INPA/EDIABAS interface... DIS and SSS are the official BMW used by the dealership while INPA/EDIABAS/NCS are the software used by the BMW factories...

As noted is a gray area since it involves software which are not supposed to be in the hands of the public... Such software has also been modified to run in a manner never intended... So not sure how I can officially help, but I have done it on 3 computers so far and everything work beautifully...

Anyone with this around Milton Keynes area?
I want to get my doors to auto lock and my angel eyes to be DRL.
I have downloaded all the software but not sure if my ODB2 cable will work with it.
Is there a special cable needed?
Any good how to's on how to do the above?

I have looked at some of the cables on ebay and they say they work upto 2007 BMW's.
Mine is a sept 2007 E86 Z4 coupe will it work with this?

Thanks

If anyone in London area would like to give me full circle break lights and recode my cruise I would be mucho happy

Cheers

Neiter of these are coding issues. Full circle brake lights just needs a link wire fitting and creuise control is either plug and play or an extra bit of loom.

I know it should be plug and play but it's not! (I have tried everything)

Hence why I think it's throwing up a fault somewhere else. Which might be effecting it.

The idea that all the software/hardware is legitimate is a bit useless, as anyone willing to fork out £1500+ for the kit will probably want to make money from it, and more than £10 a time. Considering the cost of time/travel/fuel etc, and helping a forum member, it may as well be free!

I think we should be happy to just help people out for free, and then commercial competition and such issues can't come into it if we are using non-legitimate software/hardware.

Just my 2p :)

Dave _ I understand your feeling and sentiment, but if software is obtained illegally, then the fact someone uses it for free, doesn't make it acceptable or legal.

If it were then I guess all the music sharing sites would be getting away without being closed down.

I don't make the rules on software - just act as a mod to support and help the site....

Mr Whippy is right... as much as donations are very much appreciated I think it is possibly unwise to associate a donation as some kind of "payment" for a service. If people want to help each other out it's great (of course your software should be legit, we all know this).

If the offer of help from forum members inspires a warm feeling inside and you wish to express it by a donation, then all the better, but it is by no means a requirement :D

Hehe... all good points.

I just think if you are using illegal software/hardware copies, but not making money from it, then any legal attack is going to be pretty flimsy or not go anywhere.

Of course, not ideal to say you are doing this on this forum. Surely then best to just have members say they are willing to help others, and then they discuss legalities, if the member wanting help cares, in PM or private emails.

Just trying to be realistic. Who here has paid for CarSoft (despite it not doing airbags on the E85 anyway, key need for us owners), or a GT1/DIS? One or two people...? Gonna be cheaper to drive to your local dealer ;)

Dave

Mr Whippy, I think most people would agree, but in silence. I for one would NEVER do such a thing, but am a firm believer in backup copies! You never know what could happen... :P
