Just had a Garmin mini 2 fitted at a Halfords branch near to me. Took them about 45mins while I enjoyed a coffee sat in a window seat of a costa right next door and watched the whole install. A very discreet installation and very pleased all round. šŸ™‚
 
Useful bit of kit. Worth having. Service at Halfords can be variable but you look to have been lucky with the fitter. :thumbsup:
 
Can we have photos of finished install?

Also how much did it cost? Does it have parking mode?
 
Iā€™ll take some pics tomorrow, Garmin mini 2 Ā£89.00 install Ā£35.00, and Iā€™ll tell you it was worth every penny. Although I could fit the cam myself, watching the two young lads who done the install, rather them than me.šŸ˜

I always worry about how much trim they need to take off and battery drain?
 
Iā€™ve got the BMW supplied and fitted kit in the Z4 and 335,. Both very neat and tidy installations and the units switch off when battery drain becomes critical,
The downside is that they arenā€™t cheap.
The upside is no warranty problems

Don't mate, it really is a doddle. A few quid for some trim tools and if you don't want to hardwire it use something like this into the OBD 11 port.

The hardwire kit was not cheap by itself when I last bought one. Vital though unless you are happy for the car battery to go flat :D
 
Some pics from yesterdayā€™s dash cam install. Cost all inclusive, nothing else to pay. Turns off when ignition off. There is a kit available to trigger recording if the car disturbed while away from the car but I didnā€™t take that option. Battery wonā€™t go flat while laid up for longer periods, I use battery conditioner. Wiring went along the header rail and down offside a pillar to the fuse board. All very neat and tidy. Very happy to pay the money for the install, Iā€™m retired now old, lazy and quite well off.

As you can see there is no screen on the dash cam to view video clips, you need to download the app ā€œGarmin driveā€ from the App Store.
 
That looks very neat. Small!

Iā€™ve been looking at ones with parking mode as thatā€™s when my last car got hit. Worried about battery drain. I saw some that the cable connects to the obd port and has a nice Timelapse feature when in park mode.
Looks like you can spend quite a bit of money on these things.

Out of interest could you mount that version so its pointing rearward ie to act as a rear facing camera?
