Joking apart, a crack on a wheel is a major flaw. Worse still, it happens on one, it can on all four.

If his car hadn't had a health check, he wouldn't even have known he was driving around on a cracked wheel - nor would any of us - and I don't suppose he's only been pottering about in it since he bought it.

If one of my wheels were cracked, I'd replace the lot with a different make ... and probably a different size. And I wouldn't even drive to the garage to have the job done.

326-owners cannot really want to drive their cars on wheels that are held together by the tyres, can they?

Why would the replacements you chose be any less prone to splits when the other factors would be the same ( Ie the tyres , tyre pressures , road surface , speed etc )

uh oh. thread hijack / topic creep alert! lol
it's nothing fancy and not particularly light- it's heavier than my road bike. bought from rosebikes germany website to accommodate a couple of mountainbikes and used on an e46 and e36 coupe originally.
thankfully it fits the zed and works a treat even though the bike ends up sitting a bit high to facilitate roof down.
would have preferred 'seasuckers' but they won't work on a roadie.

I have a 63 plate, during a rear tyre change last year, Black Circle told me that both my back wheels (19inch 326) were cracked.

During my end of warranty service, BMW dealer Milton Keynes did an ovality check (no charge), reported findings to BMW, both were replaced for no charge.

Good result for you there

I do check my inner rims from time to time, although 107's do appear to be pretty tough. I get my camera and attach it to my versatile whippy selfie stick, ah, another use for it :wink:

Take a look on ebay, lots of BME wheels with hairline cracks like that.

I've been looking recently for an 18" rim just to keep my car on the ground if I need to remove a wheel and the number of BMW wheels hairline cracks was surprising high.

It isn't a problem specific to any one wheel style , size or age / make or brand , genuine bmw supplied from factory ive seen countless 18inch 108,s ( BBS ) Elipsoids ,MV1s , MV2s along with 19inch MV4s all with splits & if you had to highlight a main offender off E89s you would be looking at style 296s
Bad roads & not enough rubber X by hard sidewall of runflats would seem to be the reason

When I've had my alloys welded up I'm running them at 80psi to make double sure it won't happen again
