Been to the dealer today for a service & they sent me this :(
They offered to give the wheel a roundness check in an attempt to get a replacement from bmw but I'm not holding out much hope to be honest...

You're not having much luck with Z4s recently are you?

I think this out of true malarky is a load of tosh - Non of us will ever know how true the wheels are before they have ever been driven.
It brasses me off to think that BMW are fitting kit that is patently not fit for purpose.

On my previous E89 the inside edge of the rear tyres (mainly nearside) was worn just like that - the service manager said it was quite normal.

:? What's that all about. :?

He has a cracked wheel.

Standard equipment on these I believe.

255 30 19 with a suggested 44psi its hardly any wonder
Get it professionally repaired Rob & get some 245 or 255 x 35 non runflats on then wait for one to come up on ebay
Its really no issue if the cut + weld is done properly

Cheers Rob, I worked that bit out  , he had a knackered tyre too. I just thought the video was a bit odd. :?

I've ordered some non-runflats already & will get all 4 wheels refurbed after the cracks been repaired, it's only £30 for the repair so not the end of the world.
At least the service was free as the car came with a service pack, they did the brake fluid as well

Bet it was already there when you bought it. Bloody stealers.

More than likely, it's proving it though
Best not to let this stuff eat you up, it can give you ulcers :gmb:

Just make sure its not welded over (never lasts & looks naff ) & that its done with a cut into the split then filled

Worth getting the true and alignment check done imo.
Had a sudden and catastrophic failure of a wheel bearing at 150mph on the dottinger at the ring due to a previously repaired wheel. Wheel weld held and was ok but because the wheel was out of true, causing accelerated and premature wear, the wheel bearing failed badly. had to spend extra unplanned days there to get a new bearing replaced. Fkin chew and spoiled the weekend somewhat.
Those imperceptible and barely perceptible vibrations and imperfections can have a destructive effect over time resulting in some 'interesting' cumulative effects!

Hey Rob,

I Know a bloke just down the road from me with a Zed with 326's and new non run flat rubber.........

I've got a trolley jack, meet you there in half an hour

Was that the one you said could do with a refurb anyway?

Stu.

Oh pants Rob, still at least it's an easy fix mate . Just a PITA :x

Great idea! But surely Pastry will know it's us?
There was only 1 wheel with no scuffs anyway so it was on the cards. Il just be left with a wallet that's scuffed after this episode...

I have a 63 plate, during a rear tyre change last year, Black Circle told me that both my back wheels (19inch 326) were cracked.

During my end of warranty service, BMW dealer Milton Keynes did an ovality check (no charge), reported findings to BMW, both were replaced for no charge.

I'm not convinced the cracks in the wheels occur thro impact damage !
The crack appears to start at the outside edge of the rim - surely if it was impact the crack would start at the inside edge, not the outside?

Hmm, not sure about that-what's the formula for pi again? :? Put a call out for Sars, she would probably know that stuff
Rob

The number π is a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, commonly approximated as 3.14159

That aside - apply a force at the rim towards the rim's axis - where would you expect the crack to start? I would consider the extreme outside edge to be under a compressive load?
