Coupe vs Roadster

Coupe looks better than roadster with the top up. Roadster looks better than the coupe when it's top is down.

With that said, given the choice I'd probably go Coupe. I do enjoy the feeling of open top driving but where I live it can only really be enjoyed for half the year, if that. Plus of those days sometimes it's still too cold or raining where I can't enjoy the open top. If I lived in a southern state like Florida or Nevada I'd definitely choose Roadster over Coupe. Although I noticed something funny in Las Vegas. (I was there 2 weeks ago for 1 week). The Z4's, SLK's and S2000's were all driving around with the top up and windows closed---I assume the owners found it TOO hot to drive around top down.

personally i agree the coupe from certain angles looks much better then the roadster... also more secure.. and cheaper to insure.

However the E85 was designed as a roadster.... its the opposite to all those saloons/ hatchback come convertibles - such as an astra, focus etc... while they work very well as a convertible they just are not as good as their original design.

yeah, from UNDERNEATH :fuelfire:

Coupe = undoubtedly a beautiful car, but in comparison to a roadster :headbang: a mere afterthought :poke:

(note my signature tho - I'd rather talk Ti vs. carbon frames  )

it came after so its a design upgrade/improvement

Roadster looks better imo, even with the hood up. Just a shame the colour choice and demographic over in the UK is so limited in what they like as a roof colour. The fellow on here with an Olivine Green Z4 and the tan roof for example, is an amazing looking combo.

I drove to work with the lid down, went out at lunch with it down, will be driving home with it down. Mmmmm. 1hr a day of nice sun shine when otherwise you would be stuck in a roofed car. Even in winter it's nice for the fresh air that you don't get in an office at that time of year.

That said, I do think the roadster with the roof down but windows up looks gay. Anyone driving around like is a big jessy! Even more gay with that wind deflector in too

Just like the 350z ragtop that came along after the Coupe then? :poke:

I do think the Coupe is probably one of if not the best looking car built for decades but when ever the sun comes out I just love getting he top down on the roadster which makes my mind up.

Being serious though the 350z roadster is hideous!

Top down only way to go,even in the winter seats on all boilers alight, just blows your mind, dark side that will come soon enough

As said Coupe looks simply stunning outside, but the roadster looks IMO even better ONLY with the roof down.....

I still fancy that coupe style hard top then its happy days all around...

Cheers

I never even considered buying a Roadster. I class them as a completely different vehicle altogether. IMO the Coupe has a more class than the Roadster, and the drivers to be more understated.

Does the E89 count as best of both worlds then? :P

The E89 is a schitzo and can't decide what it wants to be. Forget the dark side... Jekyll and Hyde me thinks ;-)

Before I get flamed... Just joking... was I... Errr

;-)

Roadster owners will say the roadster is better, coupe owners will say the coupe is better. The important thing to remember is that the roadster owners are wrong.

I am of course joking, both have their merits. If you've owned a roadster for some time why not try something different - ie a coupe. If you don't like it in 12 months time then just trade in again!

As for cabin space, I'm 6 foot I don't have any problems in mine, and that's with the sports seats, although I do have the seat as far back as it goes. I think I'm right in saying the coupe has slightly more cabin height than the roadster (obviously only with roof up - otherwise it's unlimited!).

I also view them as two different cars (aesthetically anyway) - especially the rear profile, very different. Ive always liked the Z4 roadster, and if i wanted to get a roadster, that would be the one for me.

However, I was looking to buy a coupe, and so looked at alsmost all of them and came to the conclusion that the Z4 was best coupe based on:

2 seats only: No more airport pickups and favours for mates. Also, get the cockpit rather than cabin feel - I really like that

big boot: I like going to france and trips round the UK. sometimes take my PC to lan events too

amazing looks: coupes are all about sleek design, i dont think it gets any better. In terms of the classic tintop sports car, Z4coupe really blends traditional principles with modern design, I've always liked cars like the DB4:

...but obviously price and ownership complications make that impractical for a daily runner. with the Z4 coupe I get the long bonnet, fast back, straight six design principles but with easy BMW ownership (and a pretty reasonable car to run!)

Rarity: there arnt many rarer production cars on the road in the UK! No so likely to see a DB4 but I see way more DB9's etc than Z4 coupes!

On a side note, I cant get a roadster because I use gas permeable contact lenses and have issues with grit getting under them. Even with the windows down it can be a pain on dry days. Plus I like listening to music alot when i drive.

Just my tuppence, tried to keep it objective :P

I went from an '05 roadster to an '09 Coupe and so far love it, I think if I had gone for another roadster it would have been to similar to my previous car. Although I must say I do wonder if i will start to miss the roadster on my road trip in 2 weeks time. I'll let you know how I feel after that

I do like the look of the coupe. However, you can't beat the feeling of top down driving. :driving: No way, no how. Z4 Pilot

I use contact lenses with shades and have no issues with hood down driving :) then again I only wear contacts for sports (MTB 4TW!) or on sunny days, rest of the time its face furniture.

We looked at a Z4 Coupe and plumped for the E92 so the Z4 kind of had to be a Roadster, wind in the hair :driving:. Not much beats it 8)
