Coupe design flaw!

Following recent topics on rain and tailgate wipers (and one a little while back on rust on the inside of the tailgate), I am concerned about the build up of water at the bottom of the rear window following what seems to be endless rain.

Surely this is a design flaw and cannot do the paintwork/rubber seal any good?

I know the beading isn't very good - but that's another topic

I too have noticed this, especially when cleaning the car!

That said I've never seen a coupe with wear/corrosion to that part of the car.

Oh and regarding the puddle of water on the boot, I either like to:

Splash friends or loved ones when they're stood next to it

Use it to clean my hands if I've been doing something dirty... ; )

Not that I've needed to yet but if you were really thirsty and didn't have a drink then would be a good thirst quencher!

So vert owners will no doubt be very jealous of this 'design flaw'!

Us ragtop owners (& folding metal tops) can make the most of the sunshine with no roof AND we can put it back up again.

Despite the obvious flaw in the overall design of the car itself I believe this can cause corrosion - sure I have seen a few threads on this ?

Exactly, regarding animals; I'd much rather a small bird have a quick splash on my boot than a fat moulting hairy old cat lying on my roof meaning a 15 minute hoover session! Glad my roof is not made of fabric material...!

I have noticed this 'problem' with mine too. I just swish the water off when I walk past the car after a rainfall.

It has occurred to me too about corrosion - the only thing I can think of is that the seal on there must be pretty damn good, but if the car was going to be standing for a long long time outside then it surely would cause a problem.

Any links to these threads about corrosion in that area?

Well i have to admit, the coupe as 1 fault. So far though i have not heard of this water causing problems. Maybe in fifteen years we will know

Yes I did walk onto that one didn't I, next time I will choose my words more carefully - at least the water on the Coupe is on the outside and can be 'swished' off rather than corroding the ragtop motor

Is your Zed not the white E89?

I have both and the E89 accumulates water under the rear brake light panel on the boot....not as much.

Solution on both is a quick round the block - or even better a hoon.

I've noticed this too. I always dry it off after a wash ... and keep it garaged otherwise, so there is never really a build-up. However, my other coupe, which I bought second-hand, has a sort of corrosion ... not of the rubber ... but of the glass where the water would sit, ... looks like the bottom 1cm of the glass needs a polish -- but I am sure it is caused by water, and not being dried off ... probably seeped up into the underside. The rubber itself appears fine.

The other coupe fault that I found when UPGRADING from the roadster, was that the door glass extends further back on the coupe and is very sharp and vindictive!

It really hurts as you smash your shoulder getting in (after 5 years of getting into roadsters...
