Coupe design flaw!

My E24 had the same sort of catch spot above the spoiler when the drain holes were clogged. It was 24 years old and hadnt corroded there yet.

My Scirocco had the rear spoiler in the middle of the rear glass which would catch water in again the same place, that was 20 years old and .. no corrosion there either.

It seems its a coupe design, but to say it was a fault is definitely too early to say.

I spent some time with a friend in an Aston Martin V8 Vantage when it was raining. When the tailgate was opened the water that had collected on it just cascaded in to the boot from the sides and then as it was fully open at the hinge end.

So tailgate design flaws are not confined to the Z4 coupe.

Well there is the other design flaw, which is that you can see naff all in the interior rear view mirror.

Well the coupe was an after thought after the roadster so i'm not surprised reallly

how many times do i need to say, the coupe is an aesthetic upgrade to the older roadster :poke: :P

I think because the z4mc is stiffer than has more grip than the z4mr :poke: therefore it was BMWs early attempt at an external lateral G meter. You get in and try and pull as much G going round corners, then when you reach your destination you check for residual water :driving:

The coupe is the stiffer chassis. Drove a roadster when i started looking for z4m's and the difference is quite apparent. If you want a nancy poser car - roadster. If you want a drivers car - coupe :D ;)

noticed this buildup too. no corrosion on nine and its kept outdoors all the time. it tends to dry out quite quickly too. only issue is dirty buildup. rub the rubber seal even lightly and you'll have a dark finger

Noticed this pretty quickly on mine too, either on the first rain storm or first wash I can't remember which. After washing I make sure I sponge and chamois that bit out to avoid any doubt. As far as boot-lid design faults go it's not too bad - have seen a number of cars where you open the boot and the water either pours into it or over you...
