Considering chopping in the Z and Merc for this...

So having not bonded with the Merc particularly... Lovely car but engine and gearbox aren't up to BMW (or even lesser brands) standards. While I don't really want to rid the Z given all I've put up with and invested, it's getting older and it's not really the most practical car.

So I'm considering a second hand but rather nicely specced 6;

Yea. Lovely looking car nice proportions even in the 4 door version. One of the better looking modern BMW's imho

Great cars :thumbsup: we have a coupe & can't really fault it. Great performance & mpg. Perfect all rounder. Not much room in the back of the coupe but not a issue for us. Go Gor it :thumbsup:

Mate of mine has the 2 door, I've driven it and loved it, creamy smooth, shame the top won't fold is all.

To be fair, that's one thing I will and will not miss. I like to take the top down but the Z has started with some odd noises in hot weather that makes me nervous. Hence a no fancy roof approach to the next car.

Boy at work has a convertible one. Really doesn't suit convertible. Imo Coupe looks great. Wife wants to change it :thumbsdown: I can't see what she would replace it with.

Fair enough, still a lovely car.

IIRC your Zed is an auto yes? (Crossing fingers I'm wrong.. :roll: )

Not my sort of car at all. But if it's your kind of car then go for it. :thumbsup:

What would you pick as a move on from the Z that has looks, power, kit and crucially more than 2 seats?

Probably nothing that's fits your bill. Being an old git, kids grown up, who does no business miles and lives on the moors and the beach. :D So I'll sit on the fence for this one and just enjoy reading the thread as it developes. :wink:

Really not a fan of the new 6 liked the old shape but think they have made it bland. Went from one of the best to one of the worst BMWs IMO

Love the looks and the engine is great. I have the same in the X5 and its performance is fascinating.

I looked at them when i bought my last Z. I'm afraid that they still whiff a little of golf club or pub landlord for me. I respect the engineering, but image -no. :(

I was in one of these a few months back, my retired dentist was giving me a lift across town :) , lovely motor no doubt and enjoyed the ride but too large for me as prefer small and powerful, the looks are a tad bland but still has presence and I think you'll find as I do in the 1 Series when you see an E89 coming towards you or pulling up alongside theres always that slight feeling of car looks envy.

Tim.

Im sure it drives beautifully but I'm really not a fan of the rear end on the 6 grand coupe and much prefer the 2 door. That said, I had a 4 series grand coupe at the beginning of the year and IMO its better looking than the 2 door, seats four people too. :thumbsup:
