Good news - I have fitted the new lights

Bad news - The LED angel rings aren't lighting up

The wiring is fine as I tested it on a spare car battery before I fitted the lights

The only thing it could be is the voltage? Although saying that they worked fine directly off the spare car battery

Any experts out there for some advice?

The problem i have had in the past fitting LED's is that i have needed a voltage regulator to maintain the 5v, as there was a fairly large fluctuation in power which damages them.. especially on starting stopping the car.

I would try plugging them into a 9v battery and make sure they are not fried.
 
Update

LED rings still not powering up (no scoring on the wires or LED rings)

Although I just noticed that if I put the sidelights on, both front indicators are lite up and stay on (solid light)

I think I'm going to leave these new lights on for a few days while I cleanup the old lights (ones with CCFL rings) then swap them back over and have a closer look at the LED's

But any advise on adding resistors etc would be welcomed

#update 2

Took the lights off the car and back into the house (to the GF's delight)

Looks like the LED light up issue was down to a poor connection on one of the bullet clips (as per Phil's suggestion)

Put the car back together and the LED angel fire up :)

(extremely bright - taken in direct sunshine)

However... A new problem

Both indicators are stuck on (solid light) the only way I have found to correct this is to add the original side light wiring and bulb the the Angel LED wiring

As a short term measure I will attach the sidelight to the rear inside of each headlight (away from the wires) until I understand why the indicators are stuck on.

They stay on when they think the light is out dont they? I read about this happening to someone when a bulb went. You'll need to fit a resister to trick the computer maybe.

That's great news Rich. My LEDs haven't arrived yet so was waiting to see if you sorted it before reverting to ccfl's. Glad they are bright though :D :D
 
Car is back together. I installed the old LED sidelights I used to use as they put out zero heat compared to traditional bulbs (as per above these are now housed within the rear of the light, attached to the case with Velcro strips)

They are much brighter as the CCFL's ring I have one my other set of lights, also white in colour

Good stuff Rich - sorry I wasn't around when you needed help. Looks like it was as I suggested that the bulb out message (or indicator lit) is because the LED's draw such a low voltge. Replace the original bulb or add a 5W resistor in parallel fixes that.

Earth or transposed live/earth wires was the obvious second point.

Park away from me Sunday as I don't want any 'who's got the brightest AE?' jibes :)
 
mike, they are connected to the side bulb, so only on when I turn on the side lights

Anyone have the part number for the gasket / insulation for the headlight backing plates?

I have some moisture build up in one of my headlights

You have to buy the whole back not just the seal, about £12 each if I recall (probably not even close :rofl: )
 
use some silicone (black) if you have it, sealed my backs fine and stopped my condonsation.They still come on and off fine to.
 
would this mirror tint film be ideal to stop the orange bulbs showing through the clear lens?

also, is it best applying it directly to the orange bulb holder? or to the inside of the lens?

Apply it to the bulb holder. It's a bit of a fiddly job mainly due to the spring holding the bulb holder being quite strong, so it does its best to wreck your neat work with the mirror film as you put the bulb holder back in.

That's pretty much the stuff I used and its lasted the duration. Trick is to wrap it and then use the spring on the dome to secure it all in place. As Kab says - bit fiddly.
