Cheapest Insurance thread (UK)

2010 2.5i Roadster
31 year old female + 1 named driver
6 years protected NCB
14,000 miles/year
Voluntary excess £150 + Compulsory excess £250

£354 incl £30 legal cover with esure and thats after the EU ruling on discounts for girls so we're all on a level playing field these days! Considering this is only £20 more than my Street Ka insurance last year I'm amazed I've got it that low!!!

Yikes, just getting quotes now.

Me and wife on Z4, not many miles.

It was £850 last year with mods (exhaust), and business use. 5yrs NCB. That was with Admiral.

I have SP30 from last year with 3pts now.

This year it's £720 with 6yr NCB.

So not bad.

All these comparison sites are useless as soon as you click mods or business the quotes go mad. You really need to just leave them turned off, find the best quotes, then contact them directly to 'add' on these extras properly as often they are not making any difference at all.

That EU ruling thing is a slippery slope in my view... but probably in a good direction.

We all share the cost of road use and the NHS and things, and so we should with insurance.

I kinda think it's bad that young people for example are all tarred with the same brush, especially men. YES, lots are idiots, but my whole peer group were sensible through school/uni, and none of us have a claim to us in all our years driving either (touch wood)...

Individual merit based on NCB is the best approach imo. Every other factor is kinda irrelevant really, including being a man or a woman. Yes they indicate trends, but the real valuable information is in NCB and fault-claims, and the accidents and severity of those you have imo!

Dave

the whole industry are crooks. im hitting up against "im sorry sir you have a liverpool postcode, how is 2.5K?"

i tried chris knott and whilst they were pleasant enough their underwriters dont do liverpool and their other one doesnt do Z4's pretty shonky really.

anyway go compare gives me admiral for ~700 which is about what i paid last year so im happy enough with that. and i say happy what i really mean is its not totally off the scale. i do feel like im being told to bend over and think of england while they violate me with a open umbrella but all things considered it could be worse.

Well just renewed mine... and one for the books... Chris Knotts were the cheapest!!

They refused to include the gf/fiance as she is under 30 though - which is a bonus really

31 years old, full no claims protected, no points/ convictions, £250 excess, Class C postcode, 6K miles per year, parked on the drive

£560 with all mods declared.

Three of my cars were with Admiral last year but they have jacked up their prices on renewal, a call got 20% off but still I'm not happy as separate quotes are still coming in cheaper.

I've now got the Z4 down to £138 and a free £50 petrol voucher with RAC direct on my 2.5SE 2003 5k miles P/A £300xs (10 yrs NCB, 50 yrs old, garaged, cheap post code, favoured employment, no claims or points). That's £88 to insure a Z4

I'm working this on my C-Max daily and wifes Pug and it's currently coming in at £257 for all 3 cars after the petrol vouchers are taken in to account - is this a record?

I would say yes!

More detail needed. :D

Its not an insurance company only on the internet and registered in Zimbabwe is it! :?

http://www.rac.co.uk/insurance/car-insurance/?gclid=CPngme6l-LUCFVDMtAodfDQA0Q I've used RAC before no problems

Wish I'd known, I've just insured my 3.0 e89 £318 I have all the correct ticks in the boxes as well as 4yrs NCB :x

29 yrs old
10 yrs NCB
No points
£450 Full Comp with Elephant.co.uk

I've only just bought my Z but I had to swap the insurance over from my CTR at a cost of £20 admin fee. It's actually no more expensive to insure the Z which I was pleasantly surprised about.

2.0i 08 Roadster

21,
4 Years NCB,
Clean license,
£1060 with a £500 excess Fully Comp (Social + Commuting, 10k Miles per annum) with Admiral

Was originally quoted at £1550~ in the renewal pack however a quick go-compare and elephant once again proved to be cheapest for me, being Admiral's sister site they just matched the quote instantly.

Not too cheap but still worth it :driving:

Chris Knott were the cheapest for me, gave them the details of the best quote I'd got on comparison sites and they instantly beat it by £40

M Coupe,
33
medium risk postcode
8 years NCB
clean license
£580 with £300 excess

They require past experience with powerful rear wheel drive motors to insure the M though

After being quoted an eye watering £566 renewal from Swiftcover and subsequently ditching them, I managed to get an equivalent policy with Admiral for £240. Very happy with that saving :)

Got my renewal from elephant for my Silver 2.0l 07 Roadster - £379 so gave direct line a call and I've just paid £173 with £200 excess for me and my better half (I'm 43 with full no claims and no points on my licence this year). :driving: :D happy days!

Before i get to carried away thinking about buying a coupe, I thought id check what 3.0 coupe would cost me to see if its even feasible to insure it parked on the street in east london. This last year i paid £900 for my 2.8 Z3 roadster. Slightly more to change it to a 2002 325 sport touring.

I put in all the details and it says £670!! I thought that was weird so i changed the car on the same details to the 325 and it says £690!

So a) apparently my insurance is dropping by £300 this year, and b) a faster, bigger engined, more desirable car in a higher insurance group that is worth 3 times as much is even cheaper than my touring to insure!

Go figure! I dont see how i can afford NOT to own a coupe

Great!!!

Insurance is finally dropping for many of us that have been paying inflated prices for so long.

My Z4M is now £324 when renewed on 12th August, that was with protected no claims and £250 excess.

I could have got it under £300 if need be..

I'm with esure..... By the way, just fitted a cherished number plate and they waived the fee for replacement documentation !

Paid £780 for my 2003 2.5i back in Feb, now looking to swap to a Z4M in the next month or so and they quoted me £710 for a year!

Aged 21 and living in a (seemingly) decent postcode of Bristol.

Buy an M, save money on insurance.. Got to be a no brainer.

Just renewing mine again, and yet again Chris Knott have been nowhere near the mark

both drivers 32, full ncb, protected, 2003 3.0i, no points, no claims, garaged.

Chris Knott came in at just over £500, but the best rate they could get after haggling was around £300.

Direct Line: £242
Post Office : £239
Admiral: £276

Above three all without haggling.

Eventually settled for post office again at £215 all in.
Three years in a row they've been the cheapest and offer exactly what I want. can't comment on claims procedure myself, but have heard they are pretty quick at sorting things out.

Cheapest is not always the best!

Its all to do with how they deal with a claim if the whatsit hits the fan.
