CDV mod/removal

Who, on here, has changed the CDV for a modified one (or removed it completely)?

Is it worthwhile?

I've read a few post on various forums, some say it improves the gear change and others not.

I find when pulling away from 1st to 2nd (quickly) the clutch does seem to be a bit slow engaging, and it makes for a jumpy pull away :( , is that what the CDV change will rectify?

The unmodified cdv only allows a certain amount of fluid to pass through it,no matter how fast you work the clutch,The theory behind it is that It will prevent driveline shock of sudden engagement.the modified cdv or removal of the cdv allows for more control of the engagement by the driver.a lot of folks have had them removed or replaced with the modified cdv and feel that it gives the control back to the driver, and makes the clutch last longer. I do notice the clutch is a little jumpy with the sport button pressed, not so much with it off,and the folks with ///M's really notice the difference. Haven't done mine yet,but I am planning on it soon.
hope that helps

That's exactly what it changes. I had real problems adapting to the clutch when I first got the car. It resulted in a few kangaroo-hopping moments when changing 1st to 2nd, and occasionally when pulling away in 1st. Since the CDV mod I don't even remember there was a problem in the first place, and the clutch feel is like any other car :)

Cheers for the feedback guys. :D

It sounds like you had the exact same issues I'm having now with the clutch/1st/2nd sixspeed.

I'll be getting one of these modified CDVs then .... is http://www.zeckhausen.com the only place to get them shipped over from?

I changed to the modified CDV two weeks ago after driving 1800 miles. I also changed my Z4 2.5 which has since been sold. Exact same experience as others. I believe it will extend the life of the clutch.

Bavarian aout sports has them for about 30+ dollars and I think they will ship

Did mine last week at Birds Auto. Good set up there.

Didnt notice masses of difference, but now having driven a fair bit it is defo better for pulling away in 1st and 2nd, much cleaner get away from stand still and changes through 1st and 2nd.

Worth it for the price it costs.

I have my modified one sitting on the dining room table :)

Need to make an appointment because I suck with wrenches

I did this the other day, what a fantastic mod :D
The clutch feels sooo much more positive and direct, and the 1st to 2nd change is much better.

Totally agree with everything said here.

I had my modified CDV fitted on Friday and it has made a massive difference - I actually feel like I'm in control of the 1st to 2nd change!

Only problem is it means I'm driving it even faster now as I don't have to worry about the kangerooing! :D

lawnmower__man, who fitted your CDV? Mine is sitting here at my dinner table and I would appreciate to have it fitted sooner rather than later! Cheers.

Have sent you a PM with the details - hope that helps! :)

Got my modified CDV fitted today and I am very happy because of that. Finally I have control over my gear changes and can drive it smoothly. The car really needed it.

Very nice indeed.

I got round to replacing the CDV in my car this weekend and have to agree it makes a worthwhile difference. I had started to get used to the clutch characteristics prior to changing it but even at that it's a pleasure to be able to use the throttle without riding the clutch slightly or easing off the loud pedal to avoid the bunny hopping and general jerkiness.

My wife didn't feel confident driving the car because of the issue, however, she is quite happy to take it out now and she's more impressed than me.
