Caught speeding - 102mph in a 70

If it was Scotland, you would have got an automatic ban.

No you don't. You get a court summons and it's there they decide if you get a ban or not.

The only automatic ban you get is for Drink Driving and then sometimes people don't even get that if their case is argued strongly enough.

And just incase yoy maybe missed it one of our own forum members for doing 101mph on the M8 and is still driving.

Not looking forward to renewing my insurance though! I think it may force a sale, but that's not until April and I have many more miles and smiles between now and then.

I assume you've already informed your insurance company? You are supposed to let them know of any pending convictions and once imposed have the amendments made.

If you were to have an accident, they check the DVLA database and if this isn't noted they could invalidate your insurance.

Likewise if you start doing quotes and you've added something you've not declared they can check and retrospectively charge you.

At least that bit is behind you now. Some insurance companies will let you off one misdermeanor, after all, we are all human.

Sleep well!

Its what you used to hear, over 100mph or double the speed limit was an automatic ban.
I have heard of people running around with over 20 points and not banned :o

Young lad, 20 got caught doing 124mph on the A1 in East Lothian during the day. He kept his license because he was an apprentice Plummer and would have lost his job. It's mental sometimes. Makes you wonder why they bother having a points threshold. Plus how much are these people paying for insurance?

No they don't. None let you off, glad to be proved wrong but everyone who has points and motoring convictions have some sort of increase on their premium and being under 25, with points can be horrendous. Just have to hope it doesn't make too much of an impact. Shouldn't be an arm and a leg but I wouldn't expect a higher premium than last renewal.

That would be me ........

Insurance company really didn't care, its a SP50/6 points .......... my premium went up 8 quid and that's basically the charge for them entering the points.
The real issue is driving after the event lolololol ........ I used to be a drive just a little over the speed limit person, now I'm a 5mph under the speed limit person  constantly aware that 6 more points gets me banned lololol

My wife's new 335 has a speed limiter - it's a case of get to the limit and hit the button - I a bit of a pit lane gizmo. Unlike the cruise control, downhill runs aren't controlled.
I try to use it whenever I can. The only trouble is that the button is very close to Resume button on the cruise. The system had previously been set to 70 mph and as I slowed to 30 and wanted to hit the Lmit button, I hit resume ! The car accelerated over the 30 limit just before a camera!
I was lucky - no ticket .

The 435d has a warning gong you can set to remind you when you should slow down.

Pretty sure the 335 will have the same.

Mines set to 70

You can also set a limit warning on the E89. I've never bothered. Mikes got a warning set on his R32, does my head in.

The bong noise of the BMs always make my Mum kak herself..........she's rather nervious of the noise after some issues with her old E39

My boing was set to 79 or 10% + 2 but I think I will reset it now.
I didn't reset it when I went to Germany in the summer and it was the wake up call I didn't want my wife to hear on the Autobahn ! Boing, going fast again!

The Z4 you feel like your doing 70 when your doing 70. In the 435 it feels like your doing 50!

You can adjust the volume of the gong too ;)

The speed limiter is good - you can override it if needs be by a good squeeze of the throttle !
I find my driving style renders the speed limiter useless :D

Just bought myself a speed camera vans/mobile laser guns/traffic light cameras detector. that will sit on my dash and scan at 360dgr's constantly and warn me of possible prosecution! Aguri Skyway £125 which has life time updates of new locations.
Not that i'm a speeding driver but trying to maintain attention at all times is bleeding impossible. If it saves me just once it will have paid for itself.
