Caught speeding - 102mph in a 70

A pal got captured at 120mph on a Fireblade - £400 fine and a 28 day ban.
It was the day of Diana's funeral on a clear, straight dual carriage way.

It seems you could get off by telling the judge that losing your job if banned from driving will lead to you being unable to pay back your debts :?
42 points & still driving :o wtf ?

well having experience in this sort of thing ............... :)

1) You need a brief. I found out at the last minute that my case was being heard in the Criminal court ........ pretty much mandatory to get representation

2) Most 100 mph cases are accompanied by a due care and attention or dangerous driving charge ...... if like mine, yours is not, then this is the play to make.

3) I was a 100% honest, saying that I had checked the road for traffic and condition (backed up by the no due care and attention thing) and put my foot down just to hear the sound of the engine.

4) when you hear some of the shite that people spout at court hearings as excuses ....... and realize they have to listen to this shite all the time ........ treat them as intelligent people, it pays.

5) Needing your licence for work cuts no ice - but making it known that you drive thousands of miles a year puts the offence in perspective .....

6) if its England ...... and you have a clean licence, and use your head ........ it will be points and a fine, it all escalates quickly if you have points or a bad attitude or a fake smile or ........ you are in Scotland :)

7) I think being young will work in your favour ......... young dumb and full of cum etc (but only if you can convinve them you are a nice chappie) ....... older experienced drivers should know better

until something happens dont let it get at you. you havnt lost your job yet, you havnt been banned yet and you havnt had a massive insurance hike yet.

i got 6 points in a day 2x 3 points for speeding on the m56, 95 and 93 (it was 2003 so a while back). i was 23 and had a v6 mondeo living in liverpool and my insurance wasn't too bad with that. so again wait for the outcome. i know different car and time etc but my point is dont think the worse just yet.

sound advice from the people here regarding be polite, honest, and sensible. I would deffo find a decent guy who knows about motoring offences and have a good chat, most lawyers i know will give a free consultation or something where you will be able to find out if its worth taking them on. let them advise you on the correct way to go and fingers crossed it will all work out.

Interesting court results - over 100 and It's a lottery 3 points or maybe a 56 day ban! :|

interesting reading that, especially the speeding safety and info bit where it says the insurance companies are finding those with speeding convictions are LESS likely to be crash involved.

when I was 18 I got accused of street racing. I was driving a little "passionately" on an empty road but im careful, kept it below a hundy and certainly wasnt racing.. its a long story.. i was accused of going over 100 amongst other things. long story short the solicitor was invaluable.

advised me to take it to the crown court to avoid a magistrates unfair decision as i was young, but was invaluable as to keeping me informed and sane more than anything. poked holes in the officers statement even though the officer said i was nice and had a good attitude. it got thrown out of court. like yourself it would have costed me my job so I took it seriously. didn't deny a single thing that I had actually done. its not the same as yours is more open and shut, just saying that I'd at least find out what your options are and the sort of approach to take.

i dont think speeding over a hundred is crime of the century if done sensibly, youve taken the risk and got caught, its no biggie, itd be silly not to get a brief to mitigate the impact. I wouldn't worry too much, on a clean licence you're probably looking at a fine and points or a short ban so shouldn't hurt you too long term.

good luck

Have a look at the peppipoo website which has a section on speeding. I have successfully used it following a parking fine following a recommendation on this site. They have some experts who will give you all the advice you need free of charge.

Good luck

Yep. Aged 24 stopped at 125mph on the M40. Got off with a huge bollocking as I was the only car on a dry straight road early on a Sunday morning.

Late for church again?

I rolled off from doing 140 to 98 as I passed the 40 sign. Received a 30 day ban and £550 fine. Before I hit the 40 sign it was a no speed limit zone so I had that in my favour.

But still gutted

Ps Isle of Man doesn't have a national speed limit so the white circle with the black slash means restrictions dropped.

Do they have anything like "driving furiously " or the likes of?

I remember a few years ago a biker was caught doing around 160 on the Dolphinton Straight and got jailed for 9 months.
Nice sunny day, no traffic, straight clear road.
They would have been better just pumping him in the courtroom. :o

Unfortunately it seems very unlikely that he will not process the ticket as it could cause him problems and disciplinary action at work, and I'm not going to butter this up but at that speed there is a possibility of a ban however it's the low end of the ban speed if that makes sense if you were doing 120-135 it would 9/10 times be a ban 140+ you would be looking at a jail sentence, but because you were "only" doing 102 then most likely you will get a hefty fine and points as the others have said as long as it's the first offence and you have a clean license, main thing is just to be honest don't try saying you weren't speeding as this won't help it's very very unlikely you would get away with it.

Couple of things worth considering.

1) request the footage of him following you. This will show that it was an isolated incident.
2) ask when the speed gun was last had a configuration. There's a strict process they have to adhere too and quite often they don't actually do this. If not, then this will make it null and void.
3) contact mr loophole who got Ronnie o Sullivan off numerous times!
