Caught speeding - 102mph in a 70

I do understand, but i've seen it so many times on car forums (as someone else said above) where people preach the moral righteousness.

Wasn't my intention mate and as I stated I've been done twice since I went from the E85 to the E89 last October after a clean license since passing my test in 1975 so I'm hardly the one to moralise. :D

Thanks Again

Jim

Maybe a topic for another thread but .... Who in their heart of hearts can claim that they have NEVER exceeded 100 MPH while say overtaking on a motorway? Traffic moving at 65 MPH , boot it to overtake , look down at the speedo and s**t ! No excuse but in a performance car it's sometimes difficult not to.

I wouldn't say that to the judge!

Me neither ! Your Honour it's inevitable

Magistrates prefer to dish out 6 points........it makes you drive better for a few years....... but a short ban is possible , save your money , a solicitor wont make a difference whereas a defendant showing remorse will, and pleading guilty by post will only postpone the inevitable.......the hearing will be postponed so you will have to attend as a ban will be under consideration.

If you can show hardship will be caused to others ( not yourself) it might help to shorten any ban and/or lower the fine

wear smart clothes and a hair cut

I got caught at 107mph on the M1 many years ago...

6 months ban and £660 fine...

I had been banned for speeding before though,so think that had some bearing on it...

Thinking about it,it was 1991....

He told you anything more than 96mph was a court date I thought it was over 100mph I got an average speed of 98mph fined 60 quid and 3 points back in 2008 hope it all works out for the best

In this case, you've taken the mick (without being harsh) so discretion doesn't apply

Is 100mph really taking the mick? I mean.. yes the law says 70, but it's not enforced as such, and is widely understood that 80+ is perfectly fine on the motorways, and regularly you find traffic moving at 90-100mph on major roads with no issues, and police generally not caring. Also the law is out of date yadda yadda safety rules braking distances improved yadda yadda :)

Yes of course it is. It's 30mph over the limit, there's no arguing it. You don't do over 100mph by accident, regardless of how good a driver you think you are you cant just flaunt the limits as you see fit and expect to get ignored because you don't agree with the limit and your car/abilities exceed it and everyone else is doing it. I'm not preaching, and I'm not saying I agree with the limit, but whichever way you cut it, there can be no complaints.
It's all
It's all very well going that fast until someone else misjudges your speed and pulls out infront of you.....

I'd get representation. Court is not a familiar environment to normal folks and they babble and look stupid real quick...

On a point of note not sure why you'd automatically lose your job. I had a friend got a drink driving ban. Simply advised his company he would complete all his work at no extra cost to the company. Had his wife drive him, early trains, taxis, etc. Tough 6 months but he learnt to drive correctly after that (well at least more observant)

Hope if doesn't come to this and good luck.

Thanks for all the responses guys, it's not filling me with hope sadly but I hadn't had much hope anyway.

To answer a few queries;

1) I have 0 points on my licence - so that should work in my favour.
2) I took a speed awareness course last year - so that won't work in my favour.
3) I have no criminal record and I'm a polite, well presented young man - so that should work in my favour
4) I'm 21 - so that won't work in my favour.
5) I'm teetotal, I haven't drank since I got my licence back in 2011 - so that might work in my favour?
6) No kids, wife, grandparents or anyone who depends on me - so that wont work in my favour.

ALSO - the reason I'll lose my job is because I work for a car website as a staff writer, which involves test driving and reviewing all sorts of vehicles - a ban WILL cost me my job.

It seems my days here are numbered, sadly, as the Z4 will have to go when I've got points on my licence as insurance will sky rocket at my age. :( :( :(

On the plus side - there'll be a bloody brilliant example of a 2.2 e85 roadster with high miles in the For Sale section - It'll be an absolute bargain for the next owner.

Got to enjoy it while I've got it this summer I suppose... :driving:

1) 0 points, that and your job are the biggest hope you have of not getting a ban.

2) Unfortunately not ideal, it shows you've had the opportunity of education and it's not helped you, if it's brought up a judge wouldn't look on that too favourably, probably negates the most lenient punishment he could give but I doubt the end of the world.

3) No criminal record, kind of irrelevant when it comes to traffic offences but yes it shows your an honest chap.

4) Would have worked in your favour actually, your young and lacking in experience, that can be a good thing, judges like educating generally rather than punishing the young if you've made an honest mistake. That's somewhat negated by point 2) unfortunately as mentioned, had education - not paid attention? That could be one spin on it.
On the plus side, your age will also work in your favour for the job side of things. That's the angle your brief will no doubt concentrate on. No judge will really want to put a young chap out of work if avoidable, I would think a ban would be incredibly harsh in this case, as your job DOES rely on you being able to drive. If it was just a case of the commute to work being a bit more difficult if you were banned, it wouldn't be a huge consideration for a judge, but a genuine job loser, I think you stand a good chance of a hefty fine + points.

5) Irrelevant to be honest. I take it you've not been banned before though?

6) Well, it's just one less angle to work on the judge rather than not going in your favour. Obviously the more angles you have the better, it won't 'go against' you as such though.

On balance, I would say get a solicitor, probably not the cheapest one you can find in this case! And a decent s**t wouldn't hurt either ;)
I would honestly be very surprised if you got a ban though, even if you did I doubt it would be a long one. As others have said, sure you could negotiate a bit of leave with work until your 'un-banned'. The only other consideration is if driving is your job, would your company insurance policy still insure you with numerous points or a ban? Then as you say your personal insurance will certainly take a hike upwards, that's where your age will sadly heavily reflect I imagine.
Honestly though, from what you've put, I would go with a ban being unlikely in your case.

Yes but for the love of god don't get anymore speeding fines in the meantime!

Ohhhhh it looks like it's all up in the air on this one folks, it could go either way.

I'll continue posting updates in this thread as and when they come.

I'll also post a link to the for sale section when I have to part with my beloved Z when my insurance renewal is due.

It's like a live feed of my life falling apart, enjoy the show!

ALSO - I was caught speeding in Angelsey, any Z'ers have any idea on how harsh they are with speeders over there? Also, I'm from Manchester, will I have to travel to Angelsey for the court date??

When I was done I was asked to go to court as the judge likes to tell you to your face. However, I got off a ban. Don't forget to mention the charity work you do . . .

Lol - I think CJ meant 'shot', but great typo

I'll claim heat stroke, alcohol, screen glare, all mid morning sat on a beach in Marbella :)

It is worse then you think as you are really at home in your office working away and you think you are in a complete different place ...

I must be old fashioned...the OP was caught speeding, which he has admitted to and IMO should just accept what the court dishes out and move on.
So the OP is guilty of a victimless crime, doing something that many, many people do every day, and you think that he should lose his job for it? In my book, that's a funny idea of "justice"!
