Car Porn!

Ouch! Sore one. Let's hope it's all sorted soon. Did you have protected no claims? I do hope so or it's back to nil or maybe just 1 year if your insurance company are nice. None the less it's going to effect your insurance costs for a little bit. Cost me an extra £125 a year with my Dad after he had a non fault accident as someone ran up the back if him. Cost £5k to fix which for a £50k car was reasonable but this made all the difference and he and I were still penalised for it not being his fault.

Supposedly once you've had an accident your more likely to have another one?

Nasty accident, at least you can talk about it afterwards. It may be a harsh lesson now but it might help you in the long term from a safety point of view (defensive driving etc).
This is a really good point. I used to ride a lot of motorbikes and had a few non-serious crashes or near misses due to my own stupid fault or somebody else's. Resets your approach each time and makes you think. Better to have lots of smaller close calls than one, big nasty one.

Great point... Every mistake makes me slightly better.

As a professional driver what I see in other peoples driving never fails to amaze sometimes.

Should get a dash cam and post up a monthly compilation ?

I will take a dash cam the next time I drive though Belgium, they must be the worst drivers in the world (ok, perhaps India / Pakistan is worse, but in the western world at least).

Nope - was a Toyota Celica, latest version...

Surprised to be honest as I thought airbags could go off at lowish mpg impacts, I'll stick with a 2CV then :)

Tim.

Spoke to dad who is a mechanic. The airbags most likely didn't fire as I didn't hit the vehicle head on. If you hit at an angle there is a chance you can bounce off them and towards/out of the window.

Yeap lessons learnt for sure.

For me the insurance is knocked back 2 years at a time, so I will drop from 4YNCB to 2YNCB. It could be worse. I do anticipate the costs for insurance moving but we shall see how badly by. They were already charging me 1k so can't get much worse :D

ouch, sorry to see.... must be the time for it, my mate just had a deer run out in front of his 2 week old 700 mile RS4, car is a mess, most likey a write off too....

glad you're OK though OP, that's the main thing, it's only metal at the end of the day...

Don't intend to disclose how it happened, my fault though.

Strange. I hope no alcohol was involved?

He doesn't drink alcohol.

Didn't want to openly discuss while a claim is still in process. As ruby kindly pointed out I do not drink at all really, I've had three shots in the past four years and that is it.

Fair enough...sorry for the implication that you were a drunk driver.

Hope it all gets sorted for you.

No worries, not many people know I don't drink on this forum anyway :)

Don't argue with Tim, he's always right dontchaknow.

Seeing as Tim got a complete reaming in the wading depth thread for antagonising you, I think it's only fair to ask that you don't push this thread in the same direction Carol.

Thanks Steven, my earlier comment re 2CV was a pun :)

I don't see Carols postings as she is on my ignore and hope she will see sense and do the same for me and move on.

I will leave it to others to muse over the F*ck off, pig etc comments levied at me in the wading depth thread. We don't always necessarilly agree with each other but it was out of order.

Back on topic.

Regards,

Tim.

Yep, because telling someone to eff off and calling them a pig really is so much worse than constantly getting on someone's case for months on end, even when they know that person's mother has just died and when they have just had a traumatic event happen to them etc., etc. That's not out of order at all of course.

Why oh why does every thread on this forum have to get ruined by constant bickering and sniping with people each trying to get the last word in, grow up guys and gals.

All this childish point scoring is getting very boring and ruining good threads in the process.

Why cant we have a bit of respect

It was him, It was her :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: SO WHAT!!!!

Glad you're ok, the two years down on insurance NCD is normal, hope the next year isn't too eye watering for you on whatever you choose next.

Well the car is confirmed as written off now, somehow fixing the damage was going to cost £15,000 through BMW :O

Ouch, well at least it was a clear cut write off then :(

Good luck with the hunt for a replacement - any thoughts so far?

Yeap, well got to send them documents to prove ownership and then see what they offer as a settlement and argue it etc.

Not sure what I will replace it with, comes down to insurance quotes and how much money I get really.

Another Z would be nice or something like a 330/335i but I expect they may all be out of price range.

Ouch - feel your pain with that damage.

Glad your ok and hope it can be fixed.

Wow - can't believe I missed this. Really sad  ... But glad you are safe and sound

So can you tell us what happened yet, or is it all still at the argument stage ? Given all the debris is round your car it looks like someone cut you up and you hit the back of them...

As for airbags, they're programmed very precisely. I wrote off a Lexus IS200 about 11 years ago - hit the central reservation at approx 85mph, spun across three lanes and hit a lorry, then spun back to the outside lane. Not a single airbag deployed because they were corner impacts. Ambulance driver said I was lucky because if they'd gone off he'd probably be taking me to hospital with burns and possibly a broken nose... Which is obviously better than being dead, but if it's not necessary then that's fine by me.
