Car Insurance Again

My i20N is an insurance group 27 and when I renewed it through Adrian Flux in March they wanted 650 quid. Managed to brow beat them down to 575.

Received the renewal on the 140i today insurance group 37 so 10 groupings higher, again with Adrian Flux and the renewal is for 617 quid :?

Both cars used the same for social and domestic and kept at same address so why is the 140i initially cheaper to insure. Doesn't make sense to me. One is 204bhp the other is 335bhp.

I do know that parts for the i20N are in short supply, was told 6 month wait for a windscreen alone :| so maybe why insurance might be higher. Just seems premiums are plucked out of the air with no real logic to how they are calculated.

No logic, mate, just 'statistics'. And nowadays computer logarithms.

My daughter's premium on her Mini Cooper is less than either of yours and she only has 1 year NCB and passed her test just 6 months ago. 18 years old. Go figure that one! :?

Crazy, its just seems a farce and wondering how this is being regulated. All Adrian Flux say in their renewal letter is you wil see your premium has increased, this is down to persistent national inflation driving costs and prices up. It seems to me its just an excuse to make prices up with no logic. All the more frustrating when its an increase of hundreds of pounds and in some cases thousands based on some nonsense.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it!

My MC was cheaper to insure than my 3.0si the year before. :?

Insurance premiums are very random. Insurance groups, power and value don't align with premiums for cars.

I've had a few 6 cylinder BMWs and have always had low quotes. The A45 AMG was one of the cheapest cars I insured.

I would have thought premiums on the M140i would be high. They are a lot of accidents and written off M140i.

Premiums for the 140i can be very high depending on your age and which dodgy area of the country the car is located. I frequent some of the 140 facebook groups and you see the 20 somethings posting their insurance has gone up from 1500 quid to over 3k. Yes I know I shouldn't be moaning  but then I'm nearly 60, car is padlocked away at night and I never go over 3000 revs :D

You are retired now, pensioners are seen as a higher risk (suicidal? )

Joking apart, no job = premium increase at the best of time

Thought it was the opposite, not using the car for work being retired, peak times etc, might be wrong though, although my niece said to me now you're retired = more time for kerb crawling  maybe thats why the premium has gone up

I had an email from LV 2 days before they sent the renewal quote through explaining why premiums have gone up
This year is £130 more than last year
Not done the comparison sites yet

Funnily enough I've just done Confused.com and the cheapest quite on the M140i comes out at 217 quid with SAGA insurance :o similar cover I currently have with AGEAS through Adrian Flux.

Direct line last year on my M4 was £370, this year they wouldn't even entertain the car so went with Aviva at £470.

Insurance is crazy right now and who knows what companies will insure and at what cost, just have to search around

470 is still a pretty good price for an M4 these days. I always try and keep it under 500 not matter what but getting more difficult.

TBH those 'specialist' brokers; Adrian Flux, Chris Knott, etc have NEVER been competitive for me.
Go with SAGA; they are useless so when they make a mistake they give you FREE cover! ( I have 6 months free on my F31 as they 'forgot' to change my car over in January). :D

For some unknown reason (apart from the fact I'm epic  ), mine (and my wife's and now my 18 year old daughter's) insurance is very, very cheap. It has been for years (and we've moved houses a lot so it isn't the postcode). I pay around £250 p/a for any one of our cars (and they are all very similar premiums). I also pay pennies for my home and contents insurance. Dunno why but the insurance industry has decided we, as a family, are a good bet! :)

Looking at SAGAS three levels of cover, their top cover which comes out at 277 quid guarantees to freeze the premium amount for the next three years which sounds pretty good unless there's a catch.

Just wait until your Ferrari is built, no-one will.touch you then

There won't be insurance by then. It will just be anarchy. Just got back in from the garage after a very successful afternoon/ evening doing 'stuff' on it actually. :D

I had that covered and it does stay but only Z4 I found in year 2 I could get it £100 cheaper from Direct Line so while it sounds great, you still need to search around first

I agree Tim, thats bloody good and based quotes others are getting I was expecting around £750 but then I am an old git, live in the sticks and the car doesn't move very far

[/quote]Perhaps that explains why the rest of our premiums have gone up so much?

Would be interesting to know one way or another if being retired is more expensive than having an occupation.

Is so, may have to be a little creative with the quote application

Yep, that is more expensive.

Best job title is production manager as per one of the web sites.
