Car Insurance Again

Just had an afternoon and evening of insurance stress! As I'm "leaving" the Zed community and joining the M2 Comp gang I've been trying to get cover. Quotes up around 2K was going to have me cancel the order and ask for my deposit back !!!
Admiral came in at £711, but website wouldn't process it. Help agent on chat apparently was fixing it but it timed out after an hour, or they went home.....
Then a suggestion of Hastings Direct, website worked a treat, no issues and got better cover, less excess, for £690. Still quite a bit more than my Focus RS and GR Yaris.
One broker today quizzed me on had I driven rear wheel drive before, how much, how long.... Yeah 8 years in 4 Zeds and I my first car was RWD, okay it was Mk1 Escort but I did do skid pan training in it LOL.

I got asked that same question about RWD cars last week when I was getting quotes. I'd already told them I'd owned my Z4MC for over 4 years. :headbang:

FWIW I had a miserable experience with Hastings last year when one of their customers hit the back of my 3 Series, but they all seem to be crap now!

My insurance did go up this year after 6yrs of it going down - about a 50% increase. Rang around loads and heard from a few brokers that they are seeing a 40-100% increase across all BMW cars.

28yo, mods declared, 5k miles, 6yrs NCB. Yet to decide if I should go with Keith Michaels or Howden, one is cheaper, the other has a better rep and underwriter.

Out of curiosity I ran the same details with different cars through MoneySuperMarket:

  • Z4M £744.56
  • M140i £944.42
  • F82 M4 £1817.12
  • Elise S2 £280.15
  • Exige S1 £640.84
  • 981 Cayman S 957.50
  • R8 V8 Manual £974.22
  • R8 V10 DSG £1100

Mine is up for renewal in September and reading these posts is not filling me with confidence. Wondering also what car related taxes Labour are going to increase including Insurance Premium tax.

Soon driving will be for the rich only

The rich will have left the country if labour comes in.

But then if anyone votes for Khan as mayor, and the mess in Wales, what hope is there nationally.

Bit different but my van renewal is £2,850 for one year I got them down to £2,700 by begging almost, I am a man and a van one man one van, never made a claim, clean licence…7 years ncb on the vans…please note that is purely for driving the van, my public liability and goods in transit with additional motorcycle transport cover is around another £700 on top.

The z is £450 ish hence it will be going unfortunately

Just got my renewal, and they all have gone down by between 30 and 50% per car. It is back again at the level before it all went mad.

Been with Hastings Direct for some time but a renewal hike for my Z4 up from £324 last year to £547 with no proper reason this year, I decided to give Chris Knott a go. Last year they were a few quid more but this year they quoted me £319.02, very easy to deal with. Needless to say Hastings and their difficult to understand far eastern phone agents will not be getting any of my business from now on.

That's because your now British

Just had my renewal quote for the cayman at £185. Pretty happy with that.

Just got the renewal through for the MC from SAGA.

£110.48, down from £134 last year, including their £30 fee for renewal arrangement. Fully comp, SD&P, no commuting. Protected NCD, £200 excess.

The meerkat quotes started at £133.

Just renewed mine today. Last year was paying £452 and the renewal for same cover came in at £545 :o

Shopped around and came across a broker Howdens. Phoned them as you can't complete an online quote and have the same insurance now with a more personal service (You actually get to speak to someone in an office and now have his direct line and email) for £455. Also undercut our house insurance which had also gone up by about 40%

Used Howdens for my business insurance this year, half the price of the one I usually use and got a good deal on our home insurance.

As in indemnity insurance? I saw that mine had gone up a lot, but I do have USA cover
