Calling Scottish Dwellers...

Can Alex Salmond give a cast iron guarantee that Scotland and it's people will be better off being independent?

Theres no cast iron guarantees with anything.
Can Better Together give a cast iron guarantee that it will be better to stay together?
All they can both do is give their opinions and let others decide.

They are politicians - they all speak with forked tongues!
We should all remember that. It's not only the Scotland vote!

The Scottish people already know what the deal is being in the union, along with written pledges from the No campaign for even more devolution. I'm yet to be convinced that going independent people will be better off. No decision has been made on what currency Scotland will have, and whether they will remain in the EU, or if they need to apply for membership and if they will be allowed in at all. There still seems to be too many uncertainties going it alone. Good luck to them if they do though.

Here Here. If they wern't all lying Ba$tards and in politics for they're own benefit this vote probably wouldn't be happening. They're all as bad as each other.

No Danger. Nor should he. To be fair he's not doing a bad job when he's actually getting on with running the country.

Perhaps you believe that 'he's not doing a bad job' because he hasn't been doing that job at all lately as he's spent all his time on the independence campaign...

...possibly a real-world example of how day-to-day life runs more smoothly when politicians are too busy to 'govern' and, the less 'governing' they do, the more your perception of how well they are performing increases... wonder if we could get them all to adopt that approach as a strategy for re-election...

I live in England - can I not be Scottish if the Yes campaign win ? Damn.
Good point Bing, as you and your fellow Scotts who live away from your home land can't vote just in case you have been brainwashed does that mean if the yes win, you have to re apply for citizenship. :?

These pledges only came out in the last few days, its not like they have been on the table for years. Obviously I am biased but it looks like a desperate attempt to get people to vote no.
The currency thing keeps on raising its head and its like that is the only thing to worry about.
It makes sense for Scotland to have the same currency as the rest of the UK and it doesnt just benefit Scotland.
Personally I dont care if Scotland is not in the EU, how much money does the UK send to Brussells every month?

To be honest I've lived in England for 18 years now - they'd probably not even entertain giving me citizenship. I'd become a potential healthcare and pension burden that doesn't currently figure in their numbers. I guess I'll be properly exiled

Why can't we make whisky in England?
We do, I've never tried it but I heard its rather good.

There is a new distillery being opened in the north lakes and it's been set up by one of the founders of a very successful Scottish distillery and I've made an investment into it. My investment will be safe because if Scotland becomes independent, I'm offski!

Excellent news! Water isn't in short supply in the Lake District and, as I understand, the Scots don't care where the barley comes from and much of it is is grown in England! So let's cut down on the transport and get distilling.

Nobody think of any positives then?

As mentioned before though, what exactly will be the difference?
The one main difference is that all monies raised in Scotland will stay in Scotland.
For years Scotland has been told that the rest of the UK subsidises it when its just not true.
We only get 70p in the pound back to be spent in Scotland.
When you look at it that way who is subsidising who?

Just to quote this back, the following proves that it is incorrect:

I honestly dread any potential breakup of the union and i think Salmond and sturgeon are taking the Scots / English thing to the extreme!
If I hadn't been greeted with "och it's that English bastard again !" by the boys in the Glasgow office I would have felt out and unwanted!
(Do we count as English from the NE?)

Agreed Ronk, we have all rubbed along together for a long time now, what's the problem? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm proud of the UK the way it is.

Salmond is just a power freak, like most politicians. That's obviously how he gets his kicks, oblivious to the effect on the people. Whatever the outcome he will be comfortable for life. I really believe that the average Scot will pay heavily if it's a yes vote.

Vote no!
