Problem is, the original scoop is as said on page 1, in the back of the grille, just before the radiator where air gets collected in a high pressure zone. Also, the stock scoop is shaped to function as a venturi. By adding the long tube which is small in diameter and omitting the venturi, you actually decreased the pressure inside your airbox, reducing any ram air effect that the stock setup already has. You did add a snorkel, which in the E36 and E39 are used to add some noise reduction, but even then, they do have the funnel shaped venturi which enhances the flow.
