Broken Springs - List (add yourself if you've been affected)

Sounds like my rear offside has gone this morning, although not had a chance to look at it yet. The dealer is saying they can't get look at it until the 2nd

56 plate Coupe, ~27k miles

Replaced mine today with a set of Eibachs, both the rears where broke into three pieces....New Eibachs all round and fitted for £200

Bloody hell, that's good... labour on mine was £124 by itself. Maybe we need to get a list of garages that will do fixed price spring swaps on the zed

I can recommend PR motors (down my B&Q / Pets at Home)... Order a couple of springs from Euro Car Parts and get PR to fit them... gotta be cheaper than the Stealer (not a fan of Harrogate BMW either!)

It was just down there where I heard it go!

Cheers for the tip, I bought it as an AUC so pushing for it under warranty... despite the awesome lead time.

Ok, then it was my Zed to experience broken spring. Behind at the car right hand side. Looked corroded at the broken surface. 72000 km.

Will probably change both springs myself. Just need to find a replacement with better quality than the OEM's.....

I can finaly join this club today .......
Rear offside broken - 46000 miles.

Replaced 2 rears with BMW originals - 209 quid fitted. Took 40 mins.

Me!

Must have gone around 95,000 miles...

BMW had to swap it, went in for alignment work and they found it was snapped.

Was about £110 to have it fitted iirc, then £120 for my alignment... all well worth it in the end as it drives much better now :D

The rears went on my zed too, hence the switch to Eibachs. At around 60k miles. I also recently had to replace a pair of rears on my E60. They were sport spec and specific to just one model.... Local dealer tried telling me that the part was 'supply & fit only'. When I reminded them that the spring had cracked in two and that half was no longer on the car they told me they would be more than happy to pick the car up from my house. For an additional price, of course! The quote was horrific....

My better half had to replace a pair of fronts recently on a 50k mile Renault and my in-laws a full set (springs and shocks) on a 40k mile CLK. The roads round our way are appalling.....

Stop me now as I can feel a rant coming on :x

When I pulled the MoT history for my newly acquired Z4MR, I found that it has failed an MoT at 25,100 miles and 4 years old for "Nearside Rear Coil spring fractured (2.4.C.1a)".

yes me 2, broken rear springs, i always thought the ride was kinda hard even for a sportscar, at the anual APK ( dutch MOT but much hard rules) last year.
it seams that the springs from BMW are mostly not strong enough not even on the M undercarige witch is fitted on my car. i hear it more often also with 3 serie's owners.

Hi,

I was just checking my rear brake pads, and noticed both rear spring are broken...and looks like they've been like that for a while, that's why it wasn't handling very well around corners !!

Can anyone recommend a place to buy ? lots on ebay at varying prices , don't want anything special, just springs that aren't broken :D
