Broken Springs - List (add yourself if you've been affected)

Rear driver side spring snapped. 2008 Z4 3.0si Coupe - 25k miles

Booked in Tuesday for springs all round to replaced with some H&R's.

After speaking with my local "BMW Master Tech" he said its usually the lower part of the spring that snaps (which is exactly what happened to myself). Local tyre fitter told me he see's it all the time on the Z4's, he feels its down to the run flats.

After the springs are fitted I will be changing to branded normal tyres and ditching the runflats!

I have a sneaking suspicion either one or both my springs are gone. Ride is rock hard, and there is an ever so slight soft metallic clink sound when driving off.

not had the best of luck with my Zed recently, along with the misfiring as reporting in a different post I had a blow out 2 weeks previous, whilst changing the tyre the part of the rear spring fell out, both mine had snapped :headbang:

The design is similar to the 3 series rear (not sure on others) it is, for all intensive purposes, an utterly terrible design. It allows water to pool at the base of the coil where it is the smallest, powder coating cracks, lets water in and its then just a matter of time :(

Yep ,2 rear springs about a year apart so fitted eibach sports springs, sorted and looks better lowered.

Z4MC. 2006

Yeah add me too. Took it to an indy garage today and I have one NSR spring gone. Quoted me £140 for replacing the one.

Are there any decent cheaper replacements which don't lower the car? If mine goes any lower I'll lose my exhaust!

Anyone had experience of using any other makes - Boge for instance? If my shocks are going to fail every 20k I'd rather pay £50 a spring than £100!

PM Nosa - he found a supplier of decent non-OEM springs that he had on the rear of his 2.5i before he changed to Eibachs

Just had my car serviced this weekend at Stratstone in Leeds. The driver side rear spring is broken! I've got a question though guys, will they replace both sides under the BMW warranty? Or just the one spring?

They are likely to only mend what's broken.

However, if you take this list in, include myself as well plase on the first thread, I am sure you can articulate it will be in their best interests to change both unless they want to see an unhappy customer back in the near future

Good shout. I'll definitely speak to them and maybe even send this list to BMW UK.

03 Roadster 3.0i @ 52K miles
Rear offside snapped at the base.
Rear pair replaced at Delacourt Motors, SE London - did a great job :D

I drove off the driveway yesterday and heard a huge metallic bang and felt it through the car. I thought it can be one of two things, either a drop-link on the suspension or a broken coil spring. 5 mins later I had the rear lifted from the ground and retrieved the end of a coil spring from the rear right side lower arm.

I'll be contacting BMW to get another shortly, but I'll be fitting them myself as I have done on my previous BMWs.

Not sure if the part number has been mentioned yet on this thread, but for a spring on the Z4MR it's: 3350 783 6827

Edited to add: here are the springs, rear-left and rear-right, which appears to have broken both at the top and bottom of the coil. Price for springs from Vines, Guildford was £203.

Popped my broken spring cherry today - been waiting for it to happen for the last two years - £280 to replace both with BMW ones or £160 to replace with OEM equivalent qaulity or £140 for cheapest.

Car is under 4 years old, 39k miles. Going to talk to my dealer about goodwill before going ahead with replacements.
