bottomed out today

BMW discontinuing 16 inch wheel sizes because of lack of demand doesn’t mean they are ‘wrong’, it means they are not desirable enough to make production of them economically viable. That doesn’t mean they are ‘wrong’ in any functional way because they made them initially, it simply means they are ‘wrong’ aesthetically for a majority of people, in their personal opinion. However a bunch of others like(d) them, because they bought them, so I think perhaps everyone just needs to chill out and agree to disagree.

now then, i want to stiffen the shocks but not lower, PURELY because of the atrocious speed humps by me - reccomendations and thoughts on that please gents ?

exactly - i do wonder where your need for big wheels is compensating for something perhaps ?

I, for one, am happy to admit to having a 16" penis.

The car shouldn't bottom out when hitting speed bumps with stock suspension in good condition. Perhaps the odd scrape of the front bumper if you are in a hurry.

I'd strongly consider just getting OEM replacement dampers before experimenting with different wheels sizes, springs etc. There was a comment earlier in the thread re. Sachs dampers not lasting - that may well be true, but it's hard to know the truth of the matter because the historical use of runflats (and low tech runflats, at that) puts a lot of instantaneous load through the shock seals, top mount bushes etc and contributes to premature failure. Same as for snapped rear springs and runflats - the failure rate is absurd.

Bilstein B6 are standard height, but stiffer than oem. Personally I wouldn't bother with the extra spend over the b4/sachs though

bilstein b4- oem equivelant https://www.bilstein.com/int/en/product/bilstein-b4/
bilstein b6- oem height, but firmer https://www.bilstein.com/int/en/product/bilstein-b6/
bilstein b8- lowering and firmer https://www.bilstein.com/int/en/product/bilstein-b8/

And now Springs. Normal ride height please. I'm guessing m sport is more expensive as well as lowered
I'm guessing I can use b6 with standard Springs on m sport specd car

sorry R80BBA-

this is a 6 page list of cars on autotrader which are from mid sept 2007-08 - quite a lot of which have factory fit 16 inch style 104s?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?radius=1500&postcode=pr54hg&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&make=BMW&model=Z4&year-from=2007&year-to=2008&minimum-badge-engine-size=2.0&maximum-badge-engine-size=2.0

Zeds? I got two of them... :o
I'm sure you have your reasons..

As for the 16" thing, I agree with lots of what he said, I just wanted to see how far he would go to explain his " get a z3" comment, and I was waiting for the 2.0 folk to join in as many started on 16" and some still are probably, certainly my 2.0 is at this moment.
It's perfect case of style over substance, and I agree 18" look better than 16", but do they work better? Absolutely not. :D

The issue you have is the knackered shocks, to demonstrate before I replaced all mine my car (M Sport suspenders!) would catch on road humps. I swapped out all the shocks for B4 and initially had Eibachs on (so lowering 15mm). Apart from the improvements to ride etc the car would catch on road humps far less. I put this down to the fact the knackered original shocks had next to no resistance in them when I took them off so with the new ones the car compresses less at the front when you hit a hump hence less catching. Ride wise a switch to SE springs from Eibachs (which are supposed to be more comfy than the M Sport ) definitely improves things as does running M Spec tyre sizes.

B4 is really want you want shock wise, its what Euro etc sell too (although they may be branded slightly different). they are all a twin tube design gas shocker like 99% of road cars come with from the factory these days. The B6 and B8 are mono tube and give a much harder ride, harder than standard, they're up rated 25-30% over M Sport. Ultimately mono tube shockers are a better design but twin tube is more than adequate for road use. plenty of info on the net to demonstrate the differences between the two.
